Ghostbusters this October

We knew it was in the works, but it looks like Sony is working to get the Blu-Ray out to coincide with the video game release. on October 21

Quote:
You heard it here first!

Sony and Vivendi Games are both aiming for the same release date of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and the new Ghostbusters Blu-Ray DVD. Both are hoping to be released on October 21st, 2008.. while neither is set in stone, both are likely to be released on the same day. Vivendi is working on a Best Buy Exclusive promotion, as well as promotions with Target and GameStop.

Sony and Vivendi are also teaming up for a DVD Cash Promotion. All copies of the Vivendi Ghostbusters: The Video Game for XBox 360, PS2, & Wii will come with a DVD cash credit good towards the purchase of the Ghostbusters Collectors Edition DVD (while supplies last).

Finally they're getting around to some good catalog stuff. I'm sure it'll be cheap at a bogo sale too. Now if they'd just let loose with other goodies in their library like The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia and Easy Rider.

ummm, dude. see the second one. go out tonight, rent or buy it along with the first one, get some friends together, watch them both and play the Ghostbusters drinking game. (Hint ... don't be Ray)

Its really is worth seeing, even if its just to see the cast back together.

I've seen the second one, but I don't remember a whole lot of it. I think the last time I actually saw it was in the theater.

Actually, don't watch them together. Watching the second one along with the first one just helps point out how weak the second one is.

No worries everyone looks like it will be a Ghostbusters 1&2 package release. Taken earlier today from the ComicCon show floor

Sony was outputting crap in 2006 and early 2007 but they really have gotten their act together and have been putting out very solid releases lately.

Ditto what he said. I've said that elsewhere here as well. They certainly deserve a cookie for most turned around studio.

Confirmed Double Feature package and Newly Restored Transfer

Blu-ray.com

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray Disc release of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, tentatively set for October 2008. Coming in a two disc set, the films will include "all-new interactive Blu-ray features and BD-Live!" Of note is the privilege that Comic-Con attendees will have in previewing the newly-restored films, as well as playing a demo of the new PlayStation 3 game, at the Sony Pictures booth on the sprawling San Diego Convention Center exhibit hall.

Rumours are that they delayed the release because of the film's 25th Anniversary coming up in Summer '09. Also reason why the so called dead video game hasn't been heard of lately, because they too are waiting to coincide the anniversary. Atari picked up the rights so its still a go

The Activision/Vivendi merger happened where Activision decided to drop the game causing it to miss it's original release. Sony delayed the blu release of the movie(s) until knowing when the game was going to be released. Atari just picked up the rights to the game. Both Sony and Atari agreed to postpone the releases to coincide with the 1st movie's anniversary next year to maximize sales potential.
