Some could argue that who cares if movies are in 1080p. They would look great in 720p, so why have 1080p hdtvs or encodes? Accepting less means that studios can easily deliver that. I applaud Universal for embracing lossless via DTS-HDMA. I think that it will improve on the audio experiences for the movies. I would be interested to pick up the first two Bourne movies or Serenity and see how a lossless track improves the movie experience.

Most of the later Universal HD DVDs which offered TrueHD + Dolby Plus, I spent around 30 minutes just searching for audible differences. In the end I gave those select titles the same rating for both codecs. Toshiba was never really a great player for TrueHD without cranking up your system. Anyways, it will be interesting to hear some dts-HDMA tracks on Blu-Ray that are already out for HD DVD to do some comparisons.

Indeed, with 50gb discs they don't usually even fill up, there is no reason for lossless audio not to be the standard, none at all.

Yep, on Blu-ray you might as well use it since you got it. I was just saying the difference is minimal, much smaller than the difference between 720p and 1080p for instance.

Yes.
I gave both codecs the same rating cause honestly dynamic range & channel placement were identical. LFE may have been stronger with the DD+ track but not enough to warrant a higher score.
