Ha, I just came here to post the same article and was going to make the same Fox comment. Though if their DVD history is any indication Fox will be the last studio to lower prices.

I have been pleasently surprised that my last few pre-orders of blu-rays on Amazon.com have only been $17.95. That is very reasonable.

The article mentioned Lionsgate saying that lower prices like that lead to impulse buys. I know that I will probably be ordering more movies if they are that low a price. And I think "impulse buy" is Derb's middle name.

I think Derbs middle name is "surewhynot".

And of course lower prices mean more impulse buys. Also a bit of pricing sensibility would be nice too. When you have 3 or 4 movies from one series (POTC and Die Hard) and all the disks are at the same price that's a little ludicrous. Give us a little break on the older ones would ya.

And I would argue that they will probably make more money that way when they sell more with lower prices. No one wants to buy tons of movies at the Best Buy prices.

Has there been any word on the specific day that the WB promotion will start? I know that this just sounds insane, but I caught the last half or so of The Shining last night. This is probably the first time I've seen a significant portion of this film in 10+ yrs, if not longer!

I don't have any Kubrick films at all on BD, so with the promotion about to start up, this will be a good time to pick up the Kubrick films, that is, if they are included in the promotion. I could order them at amazon right now, but my luck, the promotion will start just after the 30 day price guarantee.

I imagine we'll see it hit around the holidays. In fact the article says the fourth quarter, so that's sometime between October and December.

I just read the article over at Highdef and it states that it's suppose to start in september - unless it's been changed. Amazon has the Kubrick films at $17.95 ea right now, which isn't too bad. How low do you think we'll see these?

$14.95 at Amazon would be my guess.

I would buy more, I buy on impulse most times, but went you see that $34.99 price tag at BB (canada) the impulse goes away, and I decide to rent instead. In fact it's been a while since I last bought one.

Unfortunately, they are sold on the interweb for much less so that impulse doesn't go away for me. If my only option to get Blu-Ray was in Canada only, than I'd probably rent too.

I was just in my local Best Buy and i did notice a section of WB Blu-ray movies in the $19.99 price range. They use to be around $30+ for a good portion of them. So maybe it is starting sooner then we thought.

I went ahead and ordered The Shining and A Clockwork Orange today from amazon. I'll pick up 2001 and FMJ after the promotion starts.
