Evil Dead 2 Gets Another Chance

Via DVDTimes:

Optimum Blu-ray in September

Optimum Home Entertainment have announced the UK Blu-ray Disc release of several catalogue titles in September. Region coding information is TBC and exact dates and details are subject to change…

1st September 2008:

Night of the Living Dead - George A. Romero’s zombie classic is given a remastered release and includes a 90 minute documentary on the director.

...

22nd September 2008:

They Live - “Rowdy” Roddy Piper stars in John Carpenter’s sci-fi thriller that arrives on Blu-ray alongside a new DVD release but, in a developing trend, retains none of the extras (the DVD will feature an 8-minute EPK making-of and director’s commentary).

Evil Dead II - Sam Raimi’s horror-comedy classic arrives on Blu-ray with no extras.
It's awesome that NOLD and They Live are coming, but the most important title to watch for is Evil Dead 2.

Many of Optimum's upcoming BDs are utilizing Studio Canal transfers (like they did for their HD DVDs), and their Evil Dead 2 transfer is what Anchor Bay used for their perfect THX DVD edition before they decided to completely ruin the film with a ridiculous landslide of noise reduction and color alterations for their Book of the Dead DVD and Blu-ray release.

Studio Canal used the wonderfully film-like THX transfer for their most recent French DVD releases of the film too. So hopefully Studio Canal and Optimum aren't dumb and use the THX transfer. If they do there's about a 99.9% chance their Blu-ray will make the Anchor Bay Blu-ray much more of a joke than it is already. It has a great chance of being the definitive PQ release of the film for a long time to come, making the AB BD a sippy-cup coaster. Just PLEASE be region free!

Captures from the Studio Canal French DVD (same as the Anchor Bay THX DVD):
