Top Ten Blu-Ray Discs

Hi everyone,
I just bought my first BD player and would like to know what your top ten discs would be. Specifically for quality of sound and video. I think I may pick up Transformers on Tuesday as I have refused to buy it in anything other than high def. Let the lists begin!

1. The Pixar releases - Cars, Ratatouille, Pixar Animated Shorts are all unsurprisingly fantastic on Blu.
The rest in no particular order. All look and sound great.
2. Live Free or Die Hard - great sound. If you can do the HD codecs, this is one not to miss.
3. Across the Universe
4. No Country for Old Men
5. The Prestige
6. Shoot 'Em Up
7. Rambo
8. The Pirates of the Carribean movies
9. Spiderman movies tend to look hyper-real to me and suffer a bit due to how good their blu-rays are. The CGI becomes distractingly obvious.

Those are just the ones I own so I can't say that there aren't better but I have been impressed with these so far.

I can only vouch for the ones I have so...

V for Vendetta - Was my first disk and one I use to show off what Blu ray can do.

Live Free or Die hard - Awesome all the way around.

Batman Begins - Again I think this is a reference disk if you are a fan then this should be your first blu ray bought.

Shoot 'em up - Seconded! For over the top awesomeness #1. You can tell how good this looks from the close up of Clive on the bench with his carrot.

The only Animated disks I have are Beowulf and Ratatouille both Fantastic for everything on the disks.

Cherno is right about the Spiderman movies, however for a/v goodness 2 are especially 3 are right at the top. 3 I guess is a completists choice, so you decide.

I don't yet have the POTC movies for 2 reasons. 1 they are like $24 to $30 and 2 theres a box set of the trilogy coming out on Sept 16.

Hmm Top 10 list. Lets see in no specific order

1. Live Free or Die Hard - great looking disc but the sound is still the best i have heard yet

2&3. Cars/Ratatouille - probably some of the best looking discs out there and goo sounding too. Cars being the better sounding of the 2

4. Batman Begins - ok i have the HD-DVD but same codecs with bonus opening 7 minutes of TDK. Plus the sound is too die for (i love you Tumbler)

5. Transformers - same as above

6. The Prestige - reason why i bought my PS3 for blu-rayplayback in the first place. Plus the sound for it is great and one of my fav movies in my collection (seen 5 times)

7. Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy - ok i'm cheating here unlike my Pixar picks but the video and sound quality on these are top notch.

8. Spider-man Trilogy - well i already broke my rule once so why not again for the same reasons. Although missing bonus material for 1st/2nd movie sucks. Still the sound and picture are pretty damn good

9. 3:10 to Yuma - great western, strong performances, great picture and 7.1 sound.

10. Cloverfield - well the video is better then i thought for a handheld video camera but this movie will rattle the house.

Would of had Casino Royale on the list but with new Collector's Edition coming i thought it was best to leave off for the new release.

Batman Begins is coming and Ratatouille is next. Casino Royale is definitely on the docket as well. While I can't enjoy them yet on a kickin' tv...hopefully my wife will instigate that purchase soon and we'll be laughin'.

Besides the ones listed, I would also throw in "The Descent," "LOST: Season 3," "The Departed," "The Covenant," "Invincible," "Harry Potter 3-5", and "Vacancy."

I had Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (number 5) on HD-DVD and it looked amazing. I am trying to get my self to pull the trigger on the BR box set.

Also even though its not the most fantastic transfer (its way better than the dvd) The Fifth Element probably for the video upgrade and great audio upgrade is worth the $11 you can get it for at most places on line.

I did get Lost Season Three on Blu at Christmas when FS accidentally sold it for $25. I just picked up Batman Begins today and was wondering where I could get Fifth Element cheap. I'll have to do more checking online I guess.

Noooooooooooooooo

If you like a bunch of collectible crap that falls out once you open the chest as well as cases which are not even the same dimensions compared to 3-5 go for it.

I wish I had gotten them all individually, on BD of course.

Yeah, I did that when I saw that they were a) in sleeves that didn't have cases, and b) were cheaper when I bought them separately on Warner's website. I got them later than I would have with Amazon, but I got them for pretty cheap, and they look good in their bd cases rather than the box set.

I find the best deals online for Blu-rays are amazon and half.com

walmart.com can be good too if you have ship to store available for you. Their online is almost always cheaper than in store and at the expense of time you get free shipping.

You are right about 5th element. The video quality isn't the greatest but it is a great improvement over the dvds.
