Is Steely Dan done?

As in no more albums? Just wondering since I miss their style.

Uh, they've been doing pretty good actually in releasing albums. 2003 released "Everything Must Go" and in 2000 released "Two Against Nature" which was a damn fine for a 20 year break. Don't expect these guys to release projects every year or two. They just don't do that. Just be glad these guys are back together and doing stuff.

They are on tour now. Maybe catch one of their shows.

Thanks for the link and I wasn't like dead serious about them being dead and all. I do realize they have released some recent stuff....guess I was just in the mindset of 'ah well...we got what we could outta them and I never saw them live...damnit!"

I may see how that tour to Upper Darby PA. turns out. God knows I need a vaca and being how close...it could turn out cool.

Thanks again for the link.

I saw them here in Portland a couple years ago, before Cornelius Bumpus died. It was amazing.

You know what? I think I'm gonna try and see them during that PA. tour in late May assuming they go thru with it. The link Iluvalex was kind enough to post has them sitting on the bench as it says 'more info coming soon'. But if they do tour there, I think I'm in.

Now here is a totally cool thing...I ventured around that page and clicked on this link and then clicked on Episode 4 (how could I resist!) "A reptile gets in".

Ha! That chick is the Snake Babe!

I KNEW I recognized her! AWESOME.

Ok..awesome for me but hey...

Glad to help out a fan. Just recieved this in my email today from Steely Dan Newsletter [sdnews@steelydan.com]

Several more dates have been added
as the Heavy Rollers roll on in 2007.

Here are the confirmed shows as of today:

May 06 - New Orleans J&H Festival - New Orleans, LA May 08 - Hard Rock Live - Hollywood FL May 09 - B. Mann Performing Arts Hall - Ft. Myers, FL May 12 - Hard Rock Live - Orlando FL May 14 - R. Eckerd Hall - Clearwater FL May 17 - Mohegan Sun - Uncasville CT May 18 - Chevrolet Theatre - Wallingford, CT May 24 - Tower Theater - Upper Darby PA May 21 - Beacon Theater - New York NY May 22 - Beacon Theater - New York NY Jun 01 - Turning Stone Casino - Verona NY Jun 02 - Seneca Niagara Casino - Niagara Falls NY

Yes, more dates will be added!

However --
unlike in years past, there will be no single posting of a complete schedule. Instead, dates will be announced as we go along.

Given this rolling announcement schedule, we will *not* send a newsletter every time a new date is added.

This means interested fans should monitor http://steelydan.com for the very latest on confirmed shows.

Please don't schedule your vacation around a rumor!
And please do not assume a show is confirmed
until and unless it is announced on steelydan.com.

I hope it works out for me and the Upper Darby PA gig. I've been watching their site and wait on more news which they say is coming soon.

From your (or anyone else) experience, are their shows balanced between their classic songs and newer ones? Just curious since I dig mostly their older stuff compared to alot of their newer stuff.

Not sure about anyone else, but all 3 times I've seen 'em play live, they're only played a few of their newer songs. The first time I saw 'em, I beleive it was before Two Against Nature, so there wasn't anything new to play (though I think they did a Becker solo track, and maybe one from Fagen too). The other 2 times after that, I think there might've been at the most 2 or 3 new songs from either Two Against Nature or Everything Must Go.

It's basically a greatest hits type of deal, and one hell of one at that!

Thanks Tazer, I am getting more and more stoked for this.

From what I've heard, albeit a while ago, they perform live very well. Meaning, while they are arguably one of the best studio musicians, they seem to pull off a live concert as close to studio as possible.

True?

I cannot say for sure on what their concerts are like. I have seen the PBS concert (you can get that on DVD) and it was as you say, studio musicians doing some dead on versions. Yet, they did spread their wings occasionally.

The live recording "Alive In America" is not even worth a listen. I was incredibly disappointed in it.

And finally Donald Fagen did a brief stint with the New York Soul Review. That's not a bad project. I like listening to it.

But I would suspect SD take extreme pride in their concerts. Musician wise and sound wise.

Ok, can someone else try this link and tell me if you too get a red X for the verification code?

Go here then enter 2 tickets and choose LOGE area under Section. Hit Look for tickets and what do you get?

TIA!

I get one of those pictures with a random combination of letters and numbers. You should look into trying a different internet browser or something so it shows up properly.

Nope, not sold out, just no place to get two seats next to each other.

I'd buy a single seat ASAP if I wanted to go to that show. (And I would want to.)

Ahh...I see now there are single seats...thanks. Now why cant they list the seats as seats in those charts? WTF? I want an aisle seat (gimpy me) and it irks the shit outta me they can't provide a better description of that (and other venues) for people willing to spend their money!

If you aren't familiar with the seating rows/numbers/etc....how the f do ya know exactly where your seat is?

As a HUGE "Dan" fan, I've seen them twice in three years and bought the same "AJA" tour shirt (tour list different, 2003 and 2006) and they were just fantastic. My good friend who is a good 10-13 years older than me remembers when all their albums actually came out, as opposed to me actually figuring out in 1980, that the "Hey Ninteen" guys did "Peg", "Josie", and "Rikki, dont lose that number".

Michael McDonald came onstage and did a few numbers with them as well, so that was extra special.
