UGH!! No, no, no. I protest.

I'm a huge, huge Indy fan ... but I would not see a flick claiming to be Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones. None other. I'm not interested in a James Bond thing here. Give me Ford as Indy (and to be frank, I'm not so sure I want to see this movie made) or don't give me Indy at all.

The new script has gotten a thumbs up from Lucas and Speilberg.

Hmm. As long as all the major players stay involved, this could turn out okay. Personally I hope they stay away from as much of the original movies as possible, and turn this new one into more of an homage film that can be taken or not.

A sidekick sounds interesting. What do you guys think: a hotheaded, younger male version of Jones (ala River P.), or the hot girl in action (ala Scarlett from The Island)?

Perhaps a wise-cracking self-aware scooter for Indy.

That would be amusing, if his new sidekick is a 35 year old Shortround.

According to this story on IMDB, the always delicious Virginia Madsen is the front runner to play Indiana's love interest in the next movie thanks to their chemistry while shooting Firewall.

Quote:
Sideways star Virginia Madsen so impressed co-star Harrison Ford in new thriller Firewall, she's now the frontrunner to play his love interest in the fourth Indiana Jones adventure. Madsen plays Ford's wife in the new movie and admits they both found an unusual chemistry on set - after the ageing action man handpicked her for the role. And now Madsen is a clear favorite to play the leading lady in Indiana Jones 4. Ford tells movieline.net, "She was an absolute delight - professional, very talented and simply, very sweet. She also took what could have been a fairly one-dimensional damsel in distress role and added so many layers to it - there isn't many who could do that. I'd work with her again in a heartbeat. I'm actually hoping she'll come over for Indiana Jones. We've talked about it."

That would work well. She's old enough and still good looking at her age.

-Spielberg confirms ‘Indiana Jones 4 ’ to follow ‘Munich’
Unless some very powerful fates finally conspire to do Indiana Jones in once and for all (and he’s beat some pretty tough foes in his day), the long-awaited fourth film in the “Indiana Jones” franchise is full speed ahead for production this year (and release next year, according to series creator George Lucas).

While director Steven Spielberg remained largely silent on his work on “Indiana Jones IV” during the busy days on “War of the Worlds” and “Munich,” Spielberg finally broke the silence in a recent interview with Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

“I haven’t given up making entertaining films, but over the last decade I have been making some films that express the respect I have for history,” Spielberg said.

“I am about to make ‘Indiana Jones 4,’ which is, as far as I am concerned, the sweet dessert I give those who had to chow down on the bitter herbs that I’ve used in ‘Munich.'"

While this maybe true I'm in the camp of "I'm happy with what I've got". If it happens it happens if not no biggie. I'm not really chomping at the bits to see another one. I love the Trilogy to death but am content. I ceryainly won't go around screaming "IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!" or "THEY'RE FILMING THEY'RE FILMING!!!!". It's a waste of breath.

Finally!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

Quote:
BEVERLY HILLS, California (AP) -- George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited "Indiana Jones" movie will begin in 2007.

Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again.

Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

"It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be the best one yet," the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday's Rose Parade.

Exact film locations have not been decided yet, but Lucas said part of the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

"George, Harrison and I are all very excited," Spielberg said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones."

In a statement, the 64-year-old Ford said he was ready for another turn as the globe-trotting archaeologist. "I'm delighted to be back in business with my old friends," he said. "I don't know if the pants still fit, but I know the hat will."

The fourth chapter of the "Indiana Jones" saga, which will hit theaters in May 2008, has been in development for over a decade with several screenwriters taking a crack at the script, but it only recently gained momentum. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script that met the three principals' approval is by David Koepp ("Jurassic Park," "War of the Worlds," "Spider-Man").

Lucas kept mum about the plot, but said that the latest action flick will be a "character piece" that will include "very interesting mysteries."

"I think it's going to be really cool," Lucas said.

At the inaugural Rome Film Festival in October, the 64-year-old Ford said he was excited to team up with Lucas and Spielberg again for the fourth "Indiana Jones" installment. Ford said he was "fit to continue" to play the title role despite his age. (Gallery: Harrison Ford's career)

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Temple of Doom" and 1989's "The Last Crusade."

Lucas praised Ford for breathing life into his character.

"Mostly it's the charm of Harrison that makes it work," he said.

It better freakin' work. Otherwise, this'll be a huge embarrassment for everyone involved. "Rocky Balboa" was great, but that's a really fine wire it was walking.

Ugh, is there another reason for Indy 4 besides big paychecks? I'd rather see Jurassic Park 4 than Indy 4 at this point.

I harbor the same concerns and grievances of overdoing something that did end perfectly.

Alas, as a die hard Indiana Jones fan, I will see the new movie when (and if) it comes out. Good flick or not... I will make the effort to go see it...maybe not in theatres unless I hear it was a sucess, but I will see it and probably own some sort of copy of it to add to the other 3.

Lucas is good in concepts but as to his skills in dialogue....well... I am wary of what he may have done to the new script. :'/

Granted, Lucas could probably tinker with the script if he wanted to but, as per the article quoted in this thread, David Koepp has been credited with writing the screenplay for the next Indy pic.

But come on, the rocky franchise got real stupid real fast by rocky 5. Whereas the Indy trilogy is well done and didn't get shitty for the most part, so at this point it JUST feels like they're trying to make money. Secondly I want to remember indy as indy, not fucking geezer indy.
