The Crystal Skull is the 'MacGuffin' in this movie and while not directly giving up the goods, the ideas floating about from the Vanity Fair article is think "Area 51". So yes, the crystal skull maybe an alien artifact. Stargate focused on this in one episode

First MacGuffin was the Ark of the Covenant
Second was the stones
Third was the Holy Grail

Spielberg and Lucas talked about how they exhausted the MacGuffin in the first 3. Thus the huge span of time between 3 & 4. But when Lucas was doing the Young Indiana Jones, he came up with this 4th installment.

Hundred bucks says that the Alien will bear some resemblence to those in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. But if the alien does that whole Sign Language thing followed by that 5 note theme as he teaches Indy how to comminicate. Then Steven and George will have offically jumped the shark...

Come to think of it, I'd like to see this plot unfold just as I described it.

So if thats how you want it to unfold how exactly is that jumping the shark? BTW using that term makes me wanna puke. Even though it doesn't apply to either Lucas or Spielberg. But if that plotline did indeed signify Lucass' and Spielbergs' careers coming to an end due to a major mis step I would thing that they've come a very long way before there downfall.

is he going to be a good guy or bad?

I think he's good, so is he going to take on a Salah type sidekick role- friend he made in his travels- fat guy humor.

I was fortunate enough to see this tonight. I gave it a B-. There were plenty of classic Indiana Jones-type moments throughout the movie, but there was enough in the main plot that I didn't care for to pull me out of the experience. I was pretty pleased with Harrison Ford's performance, through not so much with Shia LaBeouf's.

"Oh mum shi va. oh mum shi va. oh mum shi va. oh mum shi va."

My wife and I had this conversation Sunday, regarding eternal life in the Last Crusade. Why do Jones and his dad, having drank from the cup, no be able to live forever and I would guess not age?

I didnt get it either, but ths is what she said-
In order to keep eternal life, you couldnt cross the seal. You had to stay there with the knight. Then I said I thought that only applied to the cup, and her point was that since the cup crossed the seal, those
that had just drank from it lost eternal life.

Then I pondered- why then a race with the Nazis to get it, who wanted it to create an invincible army? Did you only have to drink the water in the knights water table there, or does the cup magicallt transform any water any place anytime? If so, wouldnt Hitler have to bringthe whole German army there? Was there enough water?

My only reason about this- all the research in the world, there was still the unknown. As such, even an expert like Dad didnt know
this.

In my opinion your wife is right, the grails effects only work within that temple once you or the grail cross that great seal you or it looses the power of the grail.

that said, I already have my tickets for Thursdays 4:50p show!

This is correct. Drinking from the Grail saved Indy's dad's life, but any immortality was rendered null and void when Elsa took the Grail across the seal.
