So that plotline would have to be tweaked, since I don't think significant numbers of GI prisoners were taken in any war since then....?

I cant remember if he was actually fighting in the war, or just working for someone in a war environment (non US involved) and got injured

This i think is correct from what i remember of the short lived (but pretty good) Iron Man cartoon series. Stark was captured and force to develop/provide the technology for some evil guy. He's paralyzed i think in the show though from the waste down and had that heart condition. He developes the suit to save his life at first and then sees the problems his machines have caused and soon turns into the hero Iron Man.

Iron Man has actually been around since 1963 in comics and his Origin starts indeed in the Vietnam war.

I didn't see the cartoon series but they probably modernized the origin for it

Agreed. I have a lot of faith in Favs as a filmmaker, and Downey will own this!

I was at the con at the Marvel panel. Favreau, Paltrow and Downey all seem to really have their hearts into this. I think it is going to kick ass!

That's an early prototype armor within the story. Better armor types follow it.
