Wow... I just came.
If I'm a fanboy for anything it's X-Files... can't wait for this. I wonder how they're going to deal with the crappy last episode though, as well as the deaths of several key characters and the existence of Dogget and Reyes. I wish, like Star Trek, they had stopped at 6 or 7 seasons and just done movies... would have been awesome. |

I refuse to accept them as being dead. Im able to better sleep knowing full well that its a coverup by the government (the same one that Mulder and Scully have been fighting against all these years), to fake their deaths so that they can continue to drive around in VW bus unnoticed. |

I understand they're dead, but there have been some rumors flying around that
If this is true, then yes, the lone gunmen absolutely could be in the film. |

Well, this would pretty much kill Dogget and Reyes making a cameo. But I thought that the story would be picking up 5 years later (after the last episode) within the series timeline. |

One of the things I always loved about the show was that we (as the viewer) were watching as almost (at times) an omniscient interested third party. We were privy to the private thoughts of both Mulder and Scully and we got to share in Scully’s wonderment of Mulder and his beliefs and Mulder’s appreciation of Scully who was his tether to this world. By the time season 8 rolled around, the writers were losing some of the “special-ness” of the series. The monsters didn’t shock us and it was getting hard to believe it would shock Scully. In fact, her move from skeptic to believer in season 8 wasn’t that hard to imagine.
What was difficult was the speed at which it occurred. Scully had spent the past 7 years disbelieving, having her beliefs challenged, and then only to disbelieve again. Someone that rooted in “disbelief” needed a larger turn around period. I suppose it makes sense that the watershed moment would have been Dogget’s disbelief and Mulder’s disappearance, but it never felt organic for me. It never felt like a natural extension of who Scully was. When Mulder was brought back in season 9, he was more of a bumbling idiot, third wheel. Gone was the day when Mulder bordered on tortured genius, he was now a hack, a has been, a character the writers used as a quick means to an end and to show the lunacy of the first seven seasons. They insulted the viewer by suggesting that the man we knew for the past 8 years was nothing and his cause lost in a quagmire. The depths of the writers confusion continued by trying to deal with four stars who each needed air time and they forgot about the simple beauty of guest stars who could fill the first third of an episode without Mulder/Scully appearing. They forgot to give us a break with the conspiracy theories and took us down avenues the only ended in dead end after dead end. By the end, we (the viewers) were no longer peering in on Scully and Mulder. We were just watching another TV show that had lost what made it special. The conspiracies were boring and the characters were shadows of their former selves.

good insights Mr Furious.
anywho, here's some snippits from a very recent interview with Movieweb.com that vaguely answers some questions ... ![]() Is it more stand alone or mythology based? Chris Carter: It's stand alone. Where do the characters find themselves? What state of mind are they in? Chris Carter: That's actually a good question and that's actually part of the movie. To tell you that would be a big part. Frank Spotnitz: We can tell you it's true to where they are in their lives 6 years after the show ended. We pick up in the present day. We thought a lot about that. Our hope was that the fans would feel rewarded because we're honoring...we're true to the characters, what they've been thru and where they'd be with their lives. What's also exciting to us is, you don't need to have seen The X-Files to understand or enjoy the movie. We're hoping it's an experience to introduce new movie goers to The X-Files experience. Why now? Frank Spotnitz: They came to us in fall 2001 before the show ended. We came up with the beginnings of the story in 2002. But there was a lawsuit that just sort of stopped everything cold for years. I had given up hope, actually Chris Carter: It wasn't really a lawsuit, actually. We had to file the suit to preserve our rights to continue negotiating. Frank Spotnitz: Once that got resolved things got going pretty quickly. In the 1st film you guys had commentary on the Oklahoma City Bombing. Does this touch on contemporary themes? Chris Carter: Ya, it does touch on contemporary themes and some of the people who keep up with the news will recognize them. What are some of the broader themes of the film? Chris Carter: There's a beef recall. (laughs) Can you deny the werewolf costumes (used as bait to misdirect paparazzi illegally snapping set photos)? Chris Carter: As they always say, "Deny Everything."

I wonder what they're going to do about the kid and the Lone Gunmen.

It would be nice if TLG were referenced or if Jimmy Bond or Eve (yves?) Adele Harlow made an appearance, but I think since they are all dead, they'll be left in peace.

I'm a huge x-files fan. I bought the original season sets when they were $100+. I can't wait for this. Wish they would get an official trialer up and a name for the sequel. From the video from the trailer on youtube it looks great. There are rumors of Lance Henriksen making an appearance as Frank Black or possibly a different character(we'll see). I'm hoping for the former. I'm not too excited about Xzibit being in it however.

Official Title:
"The X-Files: I Want to Believe" Don't know how much I like it yet or not. Seems too obvious, but at least it is going back to old school Files. |

Not a bad title... I'm more worried about when the movie takes place. If they try to make it a prequel during their time in the FBI it isn't going to work, they look much older and we all want the movie to acknowledge their relationship.
Hopefully they can make it a side story without ignoring the end of the show (which sucked, but still happened). |

I doubt that is the case though, they didn't style Duchovny's hair to look like it did then, and in none of the press shots are they wearing their traditional FBI suits, but more civilian clothes. |

Plus, Gillian Anderson's hair is much longer than it was in the series in every set photo I've seen to date.

It's been out there for a while that it's not a prequel, and that it takes place several years after the show ended. Almost any interview with the cast or with Carter, they talk about how the movie will acknowledge where the characters have been and where they are now since the show ended. Gillian Anderson said she forgot her character even had a baby until she came back.

I wonder how this movie will do theatrically. I mean I was a huge fan and watched most of the season's religiously, but ya know, that was years ago. I'm not feeling the hype. Actually I think it's kinda strange for them to release this movie, but then again I'm constantly surprised at the release of movies from TV. I'm sure it might do well dependent upon when it's released. Maybe it will be a surprise hit, but I'm thinking it will do just so-so.
