I guess it has been reported that Tim Roth will be playing the villian. I don't recall what the bad dude is called.

Except that Liv Tyler can actually act, unlike Reid and Richards.

Act, sure. but all her characters are the same. There is no way she will pull off an intelligent scientific character. at least not well.

He's playing Abomination, aka Emil Blonsky.

I'm one of the few people that loves Ang Lee's Hulk, and wasn't looking forward to this sequel, re-imagining, whatever it's called... but with all these top-level actors (and Liv Tyler) in it, I'm definitely looking forward to this. Roth vs. Norton has some amazing potential.

Heres a news quote about Roth as Abomination

Quote:
Tim Roth Cast as Hulk Villain
Source: Variety
May 9, 2007

The Incredible Hulk will be matched against the oversized adversary Abomination, and Tim Roth will play the villain's alter ego, Emil Blonsky.

Variety says Roth is joining Edward Norton and Liv Tyler in the Louis Leterrier-directed film, which is being financed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Universal Pictures on June 13, 2008.

Blonsky is a KGB agent who deliberately exposes himself to the gamma rays that caused Bruce Banner to morph into the Hulk. Blonsky has upped the dosage, making him larger and stronger than the Hulk, but unable to change back to human form. He blames Banner for his problem, and makes his best efforts to destroy the Hulk.

The Incredible Hulk is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel's Feige. Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Ari Arad and Stan Lee are executive producing. Zak Penn wrote the script.

Hmmm...Abomination ehh? Ok I guess....but even though the Hulk wasn't as strong as Abomination, didn't the Hulk always win since his anger was more violent in nature versus Aboms' lacking increasable strength? Something like that...I think.

OH SNAP!

No there was a period either before her pregnancy or after where she was really letting herself go, I think it was possibly a year go, which is a couple of years AFTER she gave birth. Hence why I asked the question.

I just don't like the idea of men mentioning a woman's weight when she gets a part, as if to say "should they have casted her? She's gotten a little heavy." I think that's complete bullshit, whether it was 2 months or 2 years after her kid. How would you like to post some pics of yourself in various positions and I'll judge based on your looks whether you're fit for your job.

I didn't know my job was to be filmed so that millions of people could watch me on a big screen!

Shocking that she's in an industry built upon vanity and how good actors/actresses/sfx/sets/scenes/etc look quality wise. It really doesn't matter how I look, because I don't get paid millions of dollars to act (if you can call what Liv Tyler does acting) and be filmed for millions and millions of people to see, and in return getting paid millions of dollars for their services. Frankly I don't really care, actresses in hollywood pictures know that they're selling themselves based on their bodies and looks (not all but MOST) and because of that they understand what comes with the deal. So it's not like this is some shocking trade secret.

I don't think acting is based on looks... well, I do, for women anyway... but it SHOULDN'T be. Blaming your ignorant comment on the fact "everyone knows that's true" doesn't make it better... be someone who helps to make a change.

I'm all for hot women as models, they know what the point of that is and choose to do it... porn as well... but in a movie like Hulk? Fuck that. The days of women needing to look like a super model to make a music album or be in a movie like this need to be over.

Also, you're supporting stupid gender-based weight misconceptions that harm the self esteem of women all across the country. I've seen the "heavy" Liv Tyler in Jersey Girl and One Night at McCool's and she's nowhere near fat and looks quite healthy and attractive.

I like you titleist, but your post really pisses me off.

Well sorry it pisses you off, I wasn't saying that Tyler should be rail thin. She had gone on record saying that during LOTR she hit a healthy weight, and after LOTR she looked like she had let herself go. I've said more than a few times on this forum that I don't like overly skinny women, but rather healthy looking women. There's healthy and then there's a rapid weight gain that's not healthy.

Secondly I didn't say that Jersey Girl / One Night at McCools was her being fat, I'm referring to photos of her a year or two ago where she was looking dramatically bigger than she's ever been.

Obviously I phrased that idea in a fairly chauvinistic and mean way, I apologize on that front. But frankly these stars get paid millions of dollars for their looks, and don't take this the wrong way, but they put themselves out there to be judged. To be honest I don't really care to make a change to the social pressures of hollywood, it's a shitty system to be sure, but when actresses can make millions of dollars for winning the genetic lottery my sympathy for the pressures of ideal beauty is pretty low. I guess what I'm saying is that I support a woman's basic right to be appreciated for who they are in 99 percent of the jobs out there, but when they enter a business that's blatantly self aware of how vain it is I really stop caring.

I'm not trying to reduce your opinion of me, just stating my opinion. I was out on a walk earlier and started thinking about this thread, and yeah I do feel bad for how I phrased my original post, and in retrospect I probably wouldn't have written it, but I obviously did, so I'm just trying to stick to my guns here and defend my point. Again it was never to say she was always fat, but rather after being at a healthy weight she had gained a significant amount of weight.

Ehhh... I was probably too hard on ya... Seems like you're aware of the issues I was speaking of...

I just look at shows like The Sopranos and The X-Files that made a point to hire normal looking people and became hit shows. (Scully went through a beauty makeover yeah, but that was after the show became a hit). I see stuff like that and I know it's possible...

I also think about every great singer and amazing musician I have never heard because they were female and not at all hot.

Maybe I'm just bitter about all of it and looking for a place to vent.

No problem, my main thing was that if I'm going to make a point, even if it's not particularly well received I'm going to stick to it and ride it down to end.

That said music is a particularly weird gray area. Look at art or literature where the artist produces work, they are not the work themselves. Picaso or Shakespeare made work that was divorced of who they were or what they looked like. Whereas a musician makes a work that goes hand in hand with who they are. It's very hard to like a song if you hate the singer. Would people have like Dylan or Cash if MTV was around to force people to judge the music they heard while at the same time forcing them to judge what they see?

Basically what I'm saying is that the music industry has become a visual one as well with TV, and the internet, etc... Which goes back to my point about cinema, what really distances me from giving a shit about models or actresses complaining about the system is that the system has been there for 80+ years and it's not like it's some hidden trap that they fall into by accident. I work in the advertising industry, and just completed a video piece for a well known cell phone manufacturer, and the company had to select models for this video, where we were sectioning off women based on height, bust, etc, and frankly it's an akward experience to have to quantify how women look. It's an ugly feeling, but many of these women know what they're getting into, it's not like people lie to them.

Yes, but if all a woman wants to be is an actress, even if she knows how bad the system is can you really blame her for wanting to go after that dream anyway? Shouldn't we try and make the system better for those women?

As for music I don't think it's visual at all... That's probably because I never watch music videos, even from artists I love, and never watch music programs on television. The only thing visual about my music is the images it fosters in my mind.

I admit when I look on the back of my Neko Case Furnace Room Lullaby CD and see an amazingly hot and alluring redhead it makes me go "wow, she's hot too!".. but I liked her music before I knew what she looked like, and would still like it if she was "ugly."

Not sure if we can make it better any time soon, the system is what it is. At some base level I think these women know that they're going to get chewed up and spit out by the system, it's just a matter of how long before that moment.

And my point about music is that MTV and TV has changed music, and just in the past 50+ years the industry went from an auditory experience to something of a hybrid. And while you or I don't watch MTV, sadly a LOT of people do.

Throw Firefly in there too. Hell, Joss asked Jewel Staite to gain 20 pounds for her role. When does that happen?

However,Moog, I do take some exception to what you original jumped all over Titleist for.

Quote:

But they arent. Maybe they should be, but they just arent, or else you would see more unattractive actors. Its why we say something like "Good for him" when someone like Steve Buschemi has been successful in his actor career. I dont like it, but its how film and TV is. It is not ignorant to comment how it looks like an actor has gotten fat, its realistic in the realm of hollywood. What is considered normal in hollywood is 20 pounds under normal in the real world (and when i say normal in the real world I mean someone I would think is hot in the real world). That also means if an actress gains 20 pounds they are viewed as somewhat fat, though, in the real world they would be. This overskinnyness which has become customary has created a standard. Those standards have to be set aside, though. They cannot be applied outside film and TV, that is what is ignorant.

Now, I dont view people on these standards and I certainly think everyone needs to recognize the difference between Film and world, but until our culture shifts in the zeitgeist of attractiveness, that is what we will judge our actors and actresses on.
