Sylvester Stallone (Rambo, Rocky Balboa) is in talks to direct and star in MGM's remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson movie Death Wish.

Stallone will play an ordinary man who goes vigilante after his wife and daughter are attacked. Set to write the script are Michael Ferris and John Brancato, whose credits include Terminator 3: Rise of the Machiens and Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Paramount Pictures controls some Death Wish rights and has an option to partner. Variety says MGM will make the film whether or not Par opts in, and if a writers strike is settled in short order, MGM will try to start production before March. Stallone's partner, Kevin King, will be a producer.

Someone a little less obvious would be a better choice for this. A funny joke might be to cast Jeff Goldblum instead.

Death Sentence was a sorta remake of Death Wish 2.

Why Stallone? Shouldn't a remake have someone a little fresher?

Wasn't Bronson like 102 years old when he did the first one? I know he was no spring chicken.

He was old for sure, but in my mind Stallone and Bronson are from the same era.

He was 53 at the time of Death Wish and was in better shape than the majority of men his age.

I really don't think this is a good idea, Bronson is Death Wish, just Eastwood is Dirty Harry.

Jodie Foster, Stallone, or anyone else isn't Paul Kersey except Bronson.

I wish I could agree, but the travesty of the remaining Death Wish sequels blew away any respectability of that being a Bronson character only.

I can't believe I'll say this, but I guess I'll would welcome this idea. While Stallone has made flubs, like any other actor has, he still has writing, directing and acting talent.

I agree, Charles Bronson is that character, and it will be tough for another to crack that.

Bronson always looked older than he was, with the lone exception of Once Upon a Time in the West. Even Henry Fonda looked younger in that one.

Stallone just doesn't seem right to me, or anyway it's not a choice I'd have made, but he might do okay.

It's like Joe Don Baker will always be THE Buford Pusser from Walking Tall, but Bo Svenson was certainly adequate.

So someone else was the character of Paul Kersey other than Bronson in the sequels?
