Did anyone go out to see this film this past weekend? It did have a great trailer but I don't think I will be able to make to the theater to see it. I've read mixed reviews but most agreed
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
that when the couple escapes the house the tension is lost and it goes downhill.

I did see the movie, and I thought it was great tension for the most part, but the ending falls short, unfortunately.

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
The tension dies not when they leave the house, but when they get caught by the strangers. After that, the tension is gone. The ending was a bit disappointing.

I really wanted to, if not just to see Liv Tyler for a while- her and Jessica Biel are the only actresses / acotrs I will see just cause they are in a flick

Anyway, it made 20 mil competing with Indiana and those Sex Whores. But I still think the timing iwas wrong- should have held out till Sept / Oct.

Sorta like Halloween last Aug 31 when there was a Friday 13th in Oct he could have utilized.

Cant wait to see Trick R Treat this fall, and Saw V? Or are they waiting a year? Forgot what was written last.

May be able to catch a double feature on Friday with Zohan and Strangers

Did anyone see the French film, Them? It sounded a bit like that and I really enjoyed that one.

I never saw "Ils", but lots of people were comparing the two. I am interested in checking it out.

It is definitely worth checking out. Once the set up is out of the way it is pretty much non-stop tension until the very end. I am not sure how much truth is in Ils, but it is apparently based on true events. Creepy.

Wow, so I saw "Ils" and it was definitely a good setup. I would say that the movie had the same anti-climactic ending like "The Strangers", but I would also say that the tension was better in Ils. The similarities between the two were eerie, and I would argue that the "based on true events" was more applicable to Ils than to Strangers.

I wanted to see it. I think the best part of the trailer was when the girl screams "Why are you doing this?" "Because you were home". That right there is a great set of lines. Unfortunately, I probably wont get to see it until it hits dvd.

I loved the promotion for the film. The slogans they used were awesome in getting you scared:

"We always tell ourselves there is nothing to fear. Sometimes we are wrong."

"Lock your door. Pretend you're safe."

That plus the trailer had me at "hello." I was so enthused about seeing this. Even my brother who hates horror movies went and saw it. We both agreed that the tension just dies at a certain point. And the climax loses its impact, because of it, unfortunately. I think "Ils" did a better job in holding the tension from beginning to end.

Personally, if the film had ended this way, I would have been more satisfied:

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
If the Strangers had remained anonymous and after the couple regains consciousness and the Strangers are standing there with the knives. Then they blindfold the couple and just start giggling. Finally they just lean over and whisper in their ears, "You'll never be safe," and "We'll see you later."

The couple lives, but are forever haunted, tormented, and afraid that the next time will be their last. I don't know, for me that would have been more terrifying than what took place. However, I did like the Carrie-type ending to the movie.
