Hello, and welcome to last month.

Don't let the "r3" fool you. Superbits are typically encoded for regions 1, 3 and 4. This is no exceptoion and will work on any NTSC DVD player.

Same goes for other asian (but not Japanese, which is r2) superbits, which you can get for much cheaper, too.

Thanks for tip(!) but I didn't ask anything about region 3 issues (I'm well aware of DVD region isues as I own over 200 DVD's of which over 50% are imports including regions 1, 3 and 4).

I just thought that some people may be intersted in Black Hawk Down as a Superbit release with a dts soundtrack.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the post was appreciated.

As far as I can tell, the comms were dropped to make room for dts. No big deal for me - the picture & sound quality is what I look for.

Is there anyone here who actually has this Korean BHD Superbit dvd in their collection? If so, how's the sound quality? I just ordered this and it'll take 2 weeks to arrive.

I indeed have the Korean superbit deluxe of BHD and the dts soundtrack is superb and the dvd is all region as well,as is the Korean superbit of SPIDER-MAN that arrived thru my letterbox this morning.I've actually begun to concentrate solely on R3 dvd's because i love dts.

Where did you buy the Spider-man superbit? I usually buy korean dvds from koreandvds.com, and they have a release-date 27/10. And strangely enough, they hardly advertise it......
And what did you think of it by the way? As much an improvement as we had hoped from the slightly disappointing first release?

As for the BHD:Superbit deluxe, those of you in R2-land might be interested to hear that the Swedish version of the 3-disc deluxe set has got DTS + the commentary tracks that the korean version misses out on...... I can't comment on the difference in quality between the 2 releases, as I haven't seen either one.

Korean (and other Asian regions) DVD Site

I recently found this web site that sells many Asian-region DVD's: http://us.yesasia.com I found their site to be better in many ways to KoreanDVDs.com (faster web site, better service). Their prices tend to be a bit higher than KoreanDVDs.com, but their shipping is cheaper ($3.99) and if you order more than $39, the shipping is free. I just ordered BHD SDE Korean dvd and The Nest (Nid de guepes) Korean 2-disc set from YesAsia site (both with dts) and the total was $51--which is really not bad.

I know this thread's a bit old, but I really like this film and got the two disc R2 UK version when it was released, but recently I've been very interested in getting the R3 Superbit as it's DTS and NTSC and it also has the third disc of extras that the UK one doesn't have.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but as I've never bought any R3 discs before I assume they have the original English speaking soundtrack?

Is it really worth double dipping for this at UK £34.99 (plus Customs & Excise duties) and does it come with the soundtrack as advertised?

It contains the English speaking soundtrack with English and Korean subtitles. Read my impressions of it here--it's the last one in the thread.

You can find it for a lot less than £34.99 (which is roughly $60?) here.

And the R3 (actually R0) Korean Superbit Deluxe is the exact same rated R version shown in U.S. theaters.

Thank you for the information heuresk!

The R2 version I've got was an exclusive box set to HMV UK, it came with a paperback edition of Mark Bowden's book and was presented in a big cardboard slip case to slot the book and DVD in.

If I get the R3 version I will keep my R2 copy for two reasons, the commentaries (although I rarely listen to them), and you can buy it so cheap new now it doesn't seem worth selling.

I ordered the R3 Superbit Edition today from YesAsia.

It's my first Superbit and DVD other than R1 or R2 purchase. Just have to wait now.

I might watch the commentaries and then sell my R2 copy despite my comment as there's no point having two copies of the same film, then again I'm a bit of a completist and kind of want the commentaries even if I never watch them!

After ordering this from YesAsia on 13/02/2004 and expecting it to take at least a couple of weeks to arrive with standard shipping it arrived just six days after ordering.

The case and its presentation is good, all cardboard with gloss finish. It's the same format as the packaging for the LotR EEs.

The feature disc's presentation is a bit bland, I guess this is a Superbit thing because as much space as possible is being used for the picture and sound.

I flicked through a couple of scenes in DTS and it sounded pretty good, but it didn't blow me away like I expected as its my first Superbit, the bitrate was less than some non-Superbit DTS DVDs I have. The picture quality was good, but when I put my UK R2 version of BHD in it really didn't look much worse than the Superbit.

I wanted to try a Superbit and DVD from a region besides 1 and 2 so got two for one here plus it has the third disc of extras that the UK one doesn't have and the Hans Zimmer soundtrack.
