Want to watch region 2 dvd's
I'm interested in purchasing a British TV show set on DVD but I know I won't be able to view it on my region 1 dvd player at home. Do I have to go out and purchase a region free player or can I purchase software that will allow me to watch any region on my home theater system ? Last year I bought a new JVC dvd player and was wondering what I need to do in order to view region 2 moves on it. Most of the software online is for DVD-ROM. I don't need it for my computer, just for my dvd player that's hooked up to my TV. Any feedback is welcome. I've heard of "modding" a player but it's probably expensive and I've heard that it's too glitchy and won't play all movies. Does anyone know where I would have to go to get something modded ? Please help. I live in Toronto, Ontario. (Canada)

I forgot to write it down but I did some research online and believe that I have a progressive scan JVC model XV-N412S. I went to jvc.ca and it looks like my model. I'm pretty sure this is the number. I'm curious to know if there is anyway viewing region 2 discs. Thanks. Just curious, why is the model number important ? Aren't all dvd players moddable ? I'm hoping that I don't have to go out and buy a region-free player as they must be expensive and hard to find in Toronto.

Since no one seems to be helping, I decided to do my own research. It seems that newer JVC models cannot be hacked through the remote to make it region free. It needs to be taken in. Oh well, guess I'll have to start calling around to see who can mod my player......

It's not the best player in the world, but the Cyberhome 300 ($35 at Best Buy) is hackable from the remote. Some people have had problems with it, but I've used mine for about 3 years now without any issues.

Here is the place you want. http://www.jvbdigital.com/jvb.asp?cu...itle&title=682
You can either send your player in so they can mod it($114), or they'll send you the chip with the "how to" info($54). I'd recommend you let them do it.If thats not the model, they have a ton of JVC players listed. It says the mod converts PAL to NTSC on US players, so you should be covered there.
