Fear.com
If I buy Fear.com will that STUPID BLURB go away everytime I visit this page?!?!?!
Seriously though, as far as ads go. Does this make you want to buy it or see it? I'd like to hear from people if ads of this sort make you want to buy the movies they advertise, or if they work against the film? Personally, I didn't want to buy fear.com anyway, and I want to see it/buy it even less now. Any thoughts?

On 2nd thought, this might need to be in the Soapbox forum.
If an admin thinks so, I'd be ever-so happy if they'd move it. Thanks.

I'm inclined that this go to Soapbox. And I'm going to change the subject line to reflect what you're asking.
Thanks! ![]() edit: IT'S AN ADMIN/MOD PILE UP!!! ![]() edit2: Brian, it may be your birthday, but it's not your "mod" day. And I changed the title to be more descriptive, I hope that helps.

I will never see the movie, buy the DVD, and if it ever happens to be on TV and I happen to accidently tune it in, I'll send a baseball bat through the tube.
That would give me incentive to save up for a widescreen TV at least ![]() I hate flash ads with a passion. And any products pushed that way to me won't end up in my hands. So I don't care if Fear dot com is the next Citizen Kane, it's not going in my collection. (Fortunately for me, it sucks) |

I'll move it to Soapbox!!
Do pop-up of aything make you want to buy it? Aside from the benefit of seeing a product name, I can't see any pros to pop-ups. They lack credibility. They're annoying. They must be going for the "negative attention = attention" route... ![]()

I 'effing hate popups, but I no longer get 'em.
I just started using Mozilla and it has built-in options not to open unrequested windows (AKA popups). Great little browser. Basically Netscape without all the BS in it. So far it handles all the pages that give Netscape 4.8 problems. You need to download a Java runtime in order to use Java with it, but since the recent court ruling against Microsoft, you're going to have to do that for Internet Explorer eventually. Mozilla |

Pop-up ads don't make me want to do anything one way or the other, because I close them out before I even see what they are. If it's not a window I requested, I don't want to see it.
As far as Feardotcom, I already had plans to rent that one weekend as a bad movie to laugh at with my friends (very rarely does such a movie actually turn out to be good, but I doubt this one will be such a case). The annoying ads have neither persuaded me TO nor NOT TO rent this movie. In summary, death to popups! Miggy, the Thief

I pretty much know what I want before it even comes out. The pop ups are more for the lemmings out there that aren't quite as adept at this stuff as us.

So far I've not run into a problem with Mozilla not opening window that it should.
And to answer the topic question: No! Popup ads do not make me want to buy/see a movie (or whatever the popup is pushing) I find them a major PITA and used to close them as quickly as possible with ctl or alt-F4 but now I don't have to with Mozilla. |

Pop ups don't effect me one way or the other. Just like commercials don't.
If it's something I want, I get it, regardless if I seen a commercial or pop up for it. If it's something I don't want, I don't get it, regardless if I seen a commercial or pop up for it. I don't let advertising effect me negatively like that. -Flash

I HATE Pop Up Ads.
I HATE Fear Dot Com. Therefore, this is not working at all. The most effective way of advertising on the web is through banners at the top of the page and the bottom. We know they're there. If we want to look at ad's we can scroll to them. Pop Up's are the devil and will NEVER get me to buy their product.

well, just in case all these negative views start convincing the admins to convert to a pay-site, I'll chime in...
I, too, don't like the feardotcom ad, not because it gets in the way (my fast mouse-action is too swift for it), but it's just plain ugly - i mean, if you're going to fill a quarter of my screen with a blob, make it exciting...(something like the front cover of T3 (the magazine, not the movie) comes to mind) as for other ads, I've clicked on several, both to help out the site, and out of genuine interest. I ended up buying the Monsters Inc. DVD with the litho's by clicking through this site. I clicked on the Snoopy one, simply because i finally couldn't keep my curiosity from stopping me. I've blocked out the netflix one, because I'm already a member (painfully - I regret ever joining them!). The one in the middle hasn't shown up on my screen for months - just a nice red x (i assume it's still a DELL thing). |
