How do you deal with movie talkers?

I go to the cinema at least once or twice a week. Because I’m a “regular,” I’m constantly dealing with talkers, phone users, babies, etc. and I’m never quite sure how to deal with them. There have been times that I’ve gotten so mad that it not only ruined the film, but my day as well.

I have a friend who went to see a film last month and there were some guys talking in the theatre. He asked them nicely to quiet down and they responded with “fuck you.” He asked them again and threatened to get an usher. Long story short, he ended up fighting them in the parking lot after the film. Now, I know must situations will not end up that way, but I’m simply not willing to get into an altercation just to get some jackass to shut up. Getting into a fight is much worse than having a distraction during a film, but it always makes me mad when I don’t say something.

I have gone to some pretty wild extremes to get people to shut up, but it always makes me a bit nervous. How do you guys deal with these people and to what degree? Will you have them thrown out or just walk out yourself?

I haven't had problems with people talking as much as with them playing with their phones in a theater while a movie is playing.

I easily solve this problem by not going to the theater.

Peace...

I found myself to be getting bolder and a little more quickly annoyed by talkers in my old age (33). The most recent incident was at King Kong. A adult (parent I presume) had 2 12 or 13 year old kids with her. The movie started and they (the kids) just wouldn't shut up. Comment on how every one looked stupid wear thos "old clothes" and suck. I final lean forward and said "Before I go out to the lobby and get management to boot your asses out of here would you like to give me my money back that your kids seem to be wasting for me??" They shut up and moved to a different seating area.

Had another one that involved a few film students (Savannah has a big film school) during Batman Begins. Film students alway critisize(sp) everything about a movie. They would have done this or that or this lighting sucked here I would have put this there. I finally said "Those are good ideas why don't you go get the hell out of here and do it RIGHT NOW and stop talking about it and wasting my money.". They shut up too.

People think because they've left the house and are with friends no one else seems to matter or they can act stupid without consiquence. If there was a cousin of road rage for the theaters I might have it.

Fro me i really haven't had any real problems. I usually see an afternoon show are stay and watch a new movie with the managers at 1-1:30 am. I have had 2 incidents with talkers. One happen with Kill Bill Vol II but someone beat me to it by yelling at teh lady on her cell to "Shut the fuck up!" It worked.

The only othe rtime happened when me and my sister went to a theater in Toronto to see Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back or Austin Powers in Goldmember. 3 kids were yapping away and many people tried to tell them to shutup and they didn't. Went into burping and farting noises as still nothing. It wasn't my theater but it was the theater company i work for. So i grabbed my swipe card and walked up to the kids and threaten to kick them out of the movie theater with no refund for their ticket or food. Showed them my card for "that theater" and that i had many friends outside ready to escort them out too. Not a peep came out of them after that

I totally agree...I have run the gammit from getting an usher, to asking people to pay for my ticket, to the whole shushing game....no matter what you do the effort it takes ruins the movie for you even if they do shut up after all. When I do go now my wife and I end up asking ourselves why the heck we paid money to go just to tell people to be quiet. Movie ediquette is definitely lacking these days.

The only time I have fun when someone is talking is when they are a few rows in front of me and I can peg them in the head with peanut M&Ms...that works REALLY well

I go to the theatre fairly often and haven't had any problems recently. Of course I usually go on a Wednesday or Thursday night when there aren't too many people attending anyways, so it seems to work out well.

Well my friend i use to work with has several ideas on what to do with these types of people (Obut would require possible jail time) The worst came during last year at of all things the Toronto Film Festival. He and his wife went and saw Revolver and through out most of the movie a noisey bitch yapped away almost the entire movie with her husband. He said he would of done something it if it weren't for the fact that the bitch was Madonna talking her husband Guy Ritchie.

He did say the movie was actually good

i just pelt the talkers with pennies. the smart ones stop. i always sit in the back( better view, floor isnt as sticky) and our theater isnt that big, so i hardly ever miss( when i do, it hits the back of their seat)

I've listened to conversations for a while then just start joining in on them, which totally confuses them. I once said "That's very interesting, would you like to tell the rest of the theater too?"

If someone has a baby that's making noise I tell the parent they should've used a condom.
