MPAA Enlists consumer Muse to advise biz

Saw this news piece this morning and meant to post. Thought it was a step in the right direction. Thoughts?

MPAA enlists consumer Muse to advise biz
Tue Jul 11, 11:08 PM ET
"In an effort to become more in tune with moviegoers' opinions on the film business, the Motion Picture Association of America announced Tuesday a new online panel, My Movie Muse.

Hoping to engage 7,500 participants initially and ramp up to 15,000 by next year, the MPAA created Muse in order to periodically survey participants about movie-related topics, from theater attendance to home video rental, advertisements and piracy.

"The opportunities for innovative new distribution models, the competition from other entertainment sources and the transition to digital cinema and television make it ever more important for us to stay in close touch with consumers on the range of issues that affect us," MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman said. "Focused, consistent input from people outside the movie business can help better inform the industry during these evolving times."

The MPAA intends to survey participants quarterly and hopes they will act as unofficial advisers to the film industry."

I saw the same article this morning, and I just signed up.

Here's the site in case any others want to sign up. You have to fill out a survey to see if you qualify as a panelist. I did.

I just signed up for this too. It was hard, though, since they almost didn't want any black people to participate.

Peace...

Just got my first emailed poll to fill out for the site. Knd of lame one sided questions though which doesn't seem to bode well for the usefullness of the site.

Just noticed it in my email box, and took the poll, too. Actually not bad for a first poll, I had to think a bit about what my answers would be.

Why can't they ask you where you live before they make you sign that stupid survey of theirs. Filled it all out only to be asked for my state . . . but i don't have one and so i was denied. Could of lied but still that wouldn't be honest for the industry i guess, and i couldn't claim a prize i won

Got a survey yesterday. Really deep questions like:
"When you steal thing, do you feel bad?" and "Stealing movies is as bad as eating babies, don't you think?"

was there any information given about if you are actually a part of the panel? or was it just the survey itself that was emailed?

Exactly. It just sounds like questions designed for them to hold and use to justify their stupid practices.

Thats when you put "No" and "No". If they give you a reason why you put no put it's my parents and the governments fault.

I had to stop putting the most negative response (it was a 1 to 5 deal), just because they asked you to justify the "Absolutely not" response, but not "Almost not, but potentially not not".
Hey, I already pay thru the nose to answer essay questions for school. I don't really feel the need to do it for anyone else without a guaranteed payoff.

there was an unfairly negative ARSTechnica article that included screenshots of the survey questions. Seems like a very tough survey to design in terms of getting specific answers and responses to questions.

Then how was it unfairly negative?
The article seemed fairly accurate to me. Sure there is a bit of bias in the article, but not overwhelming. Plus it allows the reader to judge themselves by showing the actual survey. Seems reasonable to me.

I wonder if that article will skew results in future surveys sent out.

I thought it was unfairly negative by implying that all the survey questions were extremely skewed, which they were not if you clicked through the screenshots and looked at them....

I didn't think the questions in the survey I took were skewed. My main problems with surveys is they don't always have choices that accurately fit my feelings on a question, so I'm forced to chose one extreme or the other.

Peace...

yeah, i didnt think they were skewed either. And I also agree about the response part--that's why i was saying it was a tough survey to design.
