Do You Have DLP?

My town has exploded with DLP. We now have 15 digital auditoriums. They just kind of sprang up overnight. I was curious if this was happening everywhere?

Have many DLP theatres do you have in your town?

There are DLP theaters in the S.F. Bay Area, but none near me.

Peace...

Well non in my city and barely any right now around me. Mississauga being the closest for me (about 20-25 minute drive) Yet like i posted a while agi Cineplex Cinemas up here in Canada has made a purchase of 300 DLP and hope to have them in place within a year or so at most cinemas (some replacing the older DLP projectors) So its just a matte rof time for me i guess to have one at work to have

Be cool if we got one before Nightmare Before XMas re-release in Digital 3D, but if we don't i'm taking a drive to see it

We've had digital projectors for awhile now on select screens in some of the multiplexes, but they've never been specified as DLP. Do all digital projectors use DLP? If so, it's been around my area for at least 4 or 5 years. I remember seeing Attack of the Clones and Toy Story 2 on the digital projectors. It was quite nice to see the images free of film print marks and impressed the hell out of me.

The thing I noticed was that the digital projectors were just on the medium- or small-sized screens. I guess those are the 40' and 30' screens. All of the 60' big screen still use film projectors.

I'm pretty sure that DLP is used for all of the digital theatres. My theatre has the digital for their largest and smallest screens. It's the medium ones that are getting the shaft

Well there is a reason why most of them are set-up for mostly a medium size screen theater (seating wise) and that is because of the seating capacity itself. Now take for example Monster House 3D which is out right now and requires DLP to be shown. Sure a big house would be great for the film when its first release but if you only have one DLP theater screen then your kind of screwed for later on when the film starts to lose its audience. That big house could be used for a newer released movie like Talladega Nights which could easily sell out the theater, but if Monster House 3D is still there you wont sell out the theater so you lose money there and with Talladega Nights not being able to play in the big theater its placed in another slightly smaller theater. It will probably sell out and force the theater to turn away other potential viewers as well. So a theater could take a big hit with keeping a DLP in a big screen theater.

Also you guys have different size theater screens for different size theaters? Must suck because Famous Players is all about same size screen in all theaters (well except for the newer side that was added a few years ago but all 4 are the same size screen. From 159 seats to 366 in the other)

Good explanation. I saw Monster House in DLP and wondered why it was in a medium-sized theatre but didn't put much thought beyond the intial wondering. Now you answered it for me.

Yes. And I have dubbed them "Bitch Theatres."
