Studios and secrecy
By secrecy I mean during production pictures of the set or a character leaked onto the net or tv. Is this really a big deal if someone gets a glimpse of what Harry Potter or Optimus Prime look like during production instead of 6 months later when the teaser is released????
If it is just a picture of the character on set not doing anything or getting ready to go on set a big deal anymore? With the advent of the internet stuff is getting leaked all the time and the studios must be aware that someone is going to sneak a camera on set or get their hands on a drawing or picture of a character or costume? Does this hurt the film or just intice fans more to see the finished product. I personally think if the studios periodically release pictures of upcoming films during production to the public that i can't hurt but help the film. I keep thinking of the new Transformers flick. People kept getting glimpses of Optimus Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee and I kept hoping for more since I'm curious how they're updating them from 20 years ago plus I just can't wait for the film. Plus I remember when a picture of Optimus got relased and fans got upset at the design of his head that the producers went back up made some changes for the fans liking so I take that as if fans are given some sort of glimpse and a chance to provide feedback, it can be a positive for studios to give the public some previews before the teasers

Personally I liek seeing a quick glimpse of something in production. Makes me more curious then the actual Trailer for the upcomming movie. I think it shouldnt be made such a big deal if a picture or two is leaked.
I am wondering though. The reason for secrecy...is it so another movie company doesnt copy the theme or idea and try to capitalize on the potential profit of the movie by making something similar? For example: We know Transformers is in the making......does this mean someone somewhere is gonna try to get in on the hype and make a Go-Bots movie? **giggles** like they would ever compare to Transformers but hey... i amm sure you get what i am sayin here. |

I remember completely secrecy was demanded for "Alien". Now in hindesight it makes sense. Even the ads were designed to mislead, or should I say, not really say anything.
If people saw stills and leaks from the movie, I would maybe expect Alien to come across as just another monster movie with no respect. The way it was handled and by it's basic nature of being an excellent film, the hype train got in motion by the people. Ghostbusters did this too. Nothing but a logo. Then wham, the movie came and it was a huge smash. |
