THX and Anamorphic XFRS
Who makes the decision to or not to do anamorphic transfers on THX DVD's. Is it THX, or the studio. If it's THX, then I can understand the hate mail. If it's the studio, then don't we need to send the message elsewhere? I guess what I'm trying to say is, does THX make the best possible transfer with what they have to work with or not?

THX is a standards organization. Their lacadasical attitude concerning dvd is disturbing. Yes it is the studios fault for not giving us an anamorphic transfer. But on THX titles the blame lies with them because they are in a position to mandate specifications (that is what the THX program is about)

Point taken. I wonder if the thinking over at THX is:
Lets make the best possible (insert media type here) that we can with the material we are given. Could they dictate anything realisticly to even the smaller studios. Heck, we can't even enforce our own policies at work because the managers are sooo afraid that they might go somewhere else to purchase their products. That would be my only defence of the lack of anamorphic support. Does anybody know the steps in the THX certification process for video material. Does THX REQUIRE anything or do the just do the best they can with what they have? j [This message has been edited by j70chlngr (edited 02-16-2000).] |
