South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut...Oscar-nominee

Since this is The Soapbox, I wanted to say how pleased I was that SP:BLU got a nomination for best song ("Blame Canada"). Anyone who saw the movie, even if they didn't like it, must admit how well-done the music was. It satorizes and salutes traditional movie music at the same time, and throughout most of the movie, when I wasn't laughing, I was just sitting there, mouth wide open, as to how "right" the music was." And I was really worried Trey Parker, Marc Shaiman & Matt Stone wouldn't have their efforts recognized.

Personally, I think a lot of othersongs could have been nominated as well ("What Would Brian Boitano Do" "Up There" "Quiet Mountain Town", even Michael McDonald singing "Eyes of a Child.").

Now the big question: Will they perform the song on the telecast? First of all, it does use the F-word once, second of all, most of the voices done in the song was done by (I think her name is) Mark Kay Bregman, who killed herself. Hey, who sang "Against All Odds" during the telecast the year it was nominated? Anne Reinking? Let's get her to do "Blame Canada" and give Phil an eerie feeling of deja vu! Either her, or maybe ex-Simpson cast member Maggie Roswell...

Jughead

I've heard that Trey Parker is rewriting some of the lyrics for this song solely for the Oscar telecast, so it can pass muster.

Now, it's an OK song, but Uncle Fucka (for pop culture invasion) and It's Easy, M'Kay> (musically), are, in my opinion, much better songs. But, I can understand those not getting nominated, since half their lyrics are naughty.

My thoughts exactly Jughead. Uncle Fucka is not only extremely dirty and incredibly hysterical, but it does a extremely impressive job of sounding like the cookie cutter standard musical song. I actually really don't like Blame Canada very much, but like Jughead said, it's probably for content reason that it got nominated over the others.
