I read on another forum that AMARAY is going out of business....
Is this True?
I hope not ,even though thanks to Hendriks & Dominik I've become more friendly with the Hell box,Alpha. I will miss the Amaray's if this is true......I wonder how this could have happened since they seemed to be in Wide use? |

It takes more than a good product to survive in the business world.
They could have messed up their relationship with the distributors or studios. They could have let costs get out of control. It could even be a lawsuit. In any case, it doesn't necessarily mean that the case design itself is going away. The design and their manufacturing facilities would still be valuable assets that could be sold to another company to reduce debts or simply as part of a liquidation process. And, of course, it may just be a rumour! ![]() ------------------ -David |

Many studios have a stake in the Amaray keepcase. Disney is one of those companies, as is Paramount. Paramount never uses an Alpha casing. Although Alpha cases are far superior than Amaray. Why? The discs don't fall out of an Alpha case. You don't have to push a button to release a disc. You just squeeze the two notches at 12:00 and 6:00 first then lift the disc out. But back to Amaray, Disney pays Amaray good money to do "colored" cases for thier animated DVDs. Amaray is also the only company that does the two disc case. Alpha does not have one yet. So essentially, this is nothing more than a rumor.

While I'm sure someone else would correct this, Alpha does indeed make a two disc case (ala the Army of Darkness Limited Edition). And for for those of us with arthritic fingers, DVDs can only be removed from Alpha cases by putting bending pressure on the disc
![]() I'm currently using cd slipcases to hold my DVDs from Alpha cases, and am looking at buying Amaray cases to replace them. The only time I've ever had a problem with a disc coming loose in its case was Elite Entertainment's Special Edition of The Evil Dead. It's spindle was similar to Amaray in its push button design, but the case itself was much more flexible. Thus, if you hold on to the closed case in the middle (putting pressure on the spindle) the disc could slip free. My disc had been floating around in its case in the mail for who knows how long. Thank you CD Universe for using a bubble envelope rather than a shipping box ![]() Sorry this turned into a rant ![]() Anyone know where I can buy a two disc Amaray case before they fold (if they fold)? Thanks AB ------------------ Oh Dear God! It's Getting BIGGER!!! |

Alpha Cases have the "Lift Here" in the fionger groove. There are also two notches at the twelve o'clock and six o'clock. Look at a clock to figure this out
. You basically either squeeze the notches as you lift or you squeeze the notches then lift.Amaray Cases have a button in the middle that is labled: "Push Here." You press the button and the disc pops up. ------------------ Bob the Puppet |
