Charlie's Angels promoting DVD
Sure sure, all ads say "on video and DVD" (even' tho DVD is video as well, and they should say VHS and DVD, but maybe they do say that and I'm not remembering properly)...
But I've noticed something on the Charlie's Angels ads that I don't remember seeing before... it starts out with "buy it on DVD" and then follows up with "rent it on VHS and DVD". Sure, sure, we all know that VHS is a rental format and DVD isn't (yet), and we also know that DVDs aren't always released at the same time as the rental VHS... but the general public doesn't know all this. So when this commercial comes on the air, the average viewer thinks "wow... I can buy movies sooner on DVD!" Not that DVD really needs any more promotion. I think everyone knows it's here to stay. But it's still nice to note the various milestones. |

I think it's Ironic that the studios used to fight rental like it was the demon from hell, and then, when they realized how much money they could make off of rentals (with proper relations I.E. Blockbuster, etc) They promote them like crazy... Some movies are even available for rent now months before you can buy. So much for the evilness of rentals!
![]() will DVD follow the same path that VHS did (as far as rentals?) Only time will tell Cameron |
