The Horror!

I just downloaded the Superman trailer from Apple's trailer page, and I noticed "An AOL Time Warner Company" under the logo. The end is at hand! I fully expect AOL adverts to pop up on Warner movies and DVDs, as well as AOL itself probably being put on the DVD-ROM portion of our disks.

I like the new extended rating box on that trailer.

"Rated PG for Peril, mild sensuality, and Language."

Reminds me of MP: Holy Grail...

LAUNCELOT: We were in the nick of time, you were in great peril.
GALAHAD: I don't think I was.
LAUNCELOT: Yes you were, you were in terrible peril.
GALAHAD: Look, let me go back in there and face the peril.
LAUNCELOT: No, it's too perilous.
GALAHAD: Look, I'm a knight, I'm supposed to get as much peril as I can.
LAUNCELOT: No, we've got to find the Holy Grail. Come on!
GALAHAD: Well, let me have just a little bit of peril?

Let's hope AOL doesn't decide to show up their logo every 5 minutes while watching a movie..scary thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long do you think it will be before they start showing a logo in the bottom right half of the screen (in a movie)? It seems like you can't watch any program on TV anymore without having some jackass's logo on your set.

Better not see this show up... studios would be competing to see whos logo will burn in and piss off the consumer more?

To be fair, a company's name & logo will always change as quickly as possible with ownership. For example, "A Viacom Company" started showing up on the Paramount logo immediately after that acquisition became final.

And to be fairer still, AOL had nothing to do with on-screen logos -- Showtime started that ugly bit of business back in the 80s during movies and Fox was the first broadcast network to do it. NBC is currently the worst network offender, with their animated drop-ins to remind you what show you're watching, which recently have been morphing into promos for The Weakest Link (shudder). The local Fox station here in L.A. now does this on their syndicated reruns, telling you what you're watching at the start of a show and what's next at near the end.

Still, AOL is a fearsome presence on the TV and movie scene, and I trust them about as far as I can throw them.

Not to be difficult, but I'm pretty sure VH1 was doing the watermark logo thing before Showtime. (But not too long before.)

Damian,

Do you remember Castle Anthrax? The one with the Grail-shaped beacon? And oh, yeah, its only occupants were a horde of beautiful young girls. If that doesn't ring a bell, then you haven't seen the movie

I seem to recall Showtime doing it long before VH1 existed. Just not to the extent that it is now.

It must not have been a constant thing then, and they must have stopped for awhile, because I remember VH1 being the first always-on logo.

What Showtime does now that bugs me is squishing the credits for their 'extras' or promos. I don't mind the extras idea so much, but in most cases they have time to show this stuff between shows anyway.

I think the most annoying of all are the Starz! channels logos, which are way too big and gold. And their "you've just seen..." crap that interrupts the credits.

I wish films were more respected by all networks...shows too for that matter. Credits are just as much a part of it as anything else, and those people deserve to have their names seen properly for the work they've done!

Sorry for deviating this thread even further from the original topic. AOL sucks. Thanks.
