Critics and their reviews

There are a big bunch of boneheads out there, that call themselves movie critics.
Has anybody ever looked at some of these brainiacs quotes on video boxes?

Deep Rising- "Die Hard meets Alien meets Titanic"
First off, do we need anymore Die Hard on a plane, train, car, boat, tricycle, comparisons?

Perfect Storm- "Titanic meets Jaws"
I guess the shark making a brief appearance rates a Jaws comparison?

Rocketeer- "Raiders of the Lost Ark, meets Top Gun"
Did this guy actually see the movie?

The Edge- "Jaws with claws"
Ummm.......

Lake Placid- "This years Anaconda"
Not exactly a glowing recommendation.

Granted, the critics may not have had much to say that was good about the film, but they could try and make decent comparisons.

But do the studios have to list such stupid, inane quotes on the videos? If I was the filmmaker, I'd be insulted....even if it was a mediocre movie.

the studios list things like that because what SOUNDS like a favorable comparison to people who don't read reviews is often really the critic's way of describing the film, often to make fun of it. also, this is the way that a lot of movies are pitched to studios. like in the player, "it's like pretty woman, but with..."

and as for the rocketeer, well it's about a guy who flies (top gun) and it takes place in the 40's (indiana jones).

and yeah, i agree, this is really stupid.

I guess with all of this "Sonygate" stuff that is happening, I think consumers are going to be even more weary about these types of quotes, stupid or not.

Myself, I never pay attention to the quotes on the box..I either see the film and decide for myself, or I don't see it.

My ex-girlfrind used to rent movies based on how cool the cover looked.

It didn't matter if it was a great movie packaged unattractively or a sucky movie with bells and whistles on the box... this was her rating system.

I don't go by critics reviews either, I just happened to notice some of those dimwitted quotes on some of my discs.
