Almost Famous special edition question - DVDfile.com forum for DVD, Blu-Ray, and HD-DVD

DVDFile newbie here. I have a question: has anyone heard anything about a special edition of "Almost Famous" coming out? I remember reading interviews with Cameron Crowe before the film came out saying that he had a lot of deleted footage that was going to be on the DVD. Has anyone heard if he's going to release anything like this? Thanks!

I am pretty sure that a directors cut version, with commentary and other stuff is coming out next year sometime. At least, that was what was being said around the time the original disc was released in March.
I went ahead and bought the disc when it came out because I like the movie so much, and I will have watched it well past it's $20 worth by the time it is released again. I don't think there has been much else said about a new release, but I am sure one will be out sometime next year, probably not any sooner.

Funny you should ask that - I JUST finished watching my Almost Famous DVD!

There is a version of Almost Famous that is 30 minutes longer, called "Untitled" which was originally to appear on the first DVD release as a special feature. Cameron Crowe got too busy with Vanilla Sky to be involved, so it was delayed and the movie only disc was released.

When he is ready, they are supposed to release a special edition with both cuts of the film, a commentary from Crowe, and more behind the scenes stuff. There is no date that I know of.

Hints of some of this extra footage can be seen in the trailer on the current DVD release.
