DVD-18

With Artisan saying they will no longer support this format, it seems like that this maybe the end of the DVD-18. I find it kind of sad because I think are times when it could be useful. For instance, you could reduce the size of a very large box set by using the format.

How do you guys feel about it? Should it just die, or can it remain a viable alternative when considering a multiple disc release? Could it possibly find new life in computer software, especially with the new crop of next generation gaming machines?

From what I've heard, Artisan is d/c-ing DVD-18 due to a lot of negative customer feedback. Personally, I like the idea of having a ton of material on one disk, but it's still a flipper. As long as the entire film is on one side, at least, and the supplements on the other, I can live with it just fine.

As long as Warner Bros. insists on using the snapper case for all of their releases, then I hope the DVD-18 lives on. I prefer the DVD-18 version of Superman versus the 2 disc disasters that were included in the Oliver Stone sets.

While it is nice to have so much info on one disc, I'd rather have it split up over two. While I couldn't care less about the full screen versions of Ronin, Usual Suspects, and all my other double sided discs, I do care about the supplements for T2, and hate having to read the teeny-tiny print on the "label". If I could I'd trade my dvd-18 for a pair of dvd-9s any day.

I like the idea of DVD-18, b/c it's cool to think they can put so much stuff on a single disc, but, ultimately, It doesn't affect my purchase one way or the other if something is DVD-18 or two discs.

I agree, the idea of the dvd-18 is cool, but it's nice to get 2 discs with art or graphics as labels for the discs. I am glad that I have a couple of dvd-18s though, kind of as a collector's item.

I wish DVD-18 could be used for providing both widescreen and pan & scan versions of a movie (maybe with a second disc for supplements) without having to forego dual layering. Of course, an adhesive label would be included so you could have artwork on one side.
