Minimizing layer change hiccups

I discovered something interesting regarding layer change issues, and I was wondering if anyone can confirm:

I have a sony S-3000 DVD player, and up until recently I almost NEVER notice the layer change (that is audio didn't cut out). When I moved and re-setup my system I connected the toslink digital cable but didn't bother with the analog cables as well (connecting into a Sony 50ES receiver). Now I hear the layer change more often. With the analog cables added back in, the pause in audio again dissapears, though audio IS still 5.1 digital throughout the play of the disc.

Has anyone heard of this? Works for me

Wow, I have never heard of this or have a good reason why this would work. But if it does good.

I have my DVP 3000 connected to my TA-E9000 ES with a optical cable but I do not get any audio disruption. Not any more then the picture warrents any way. On some disk the layer change is just better and faster the others. Watch Virus yesterday and in the middle of a scene the layer switched. It takes about 1/2 second or so but why do that in the middle of a scene ? Any way different subject.

What do you mean by analog cables by the way ? the two stereo connections ?
