Wireless Home Theater?
I have a very nice 5.1 home theater set up in my condo. The one problem I have is that my Surround speakers have thick speaker cables running acrosss the floor. Besides lookinng bad it is a hazard to those who don't know they are there. I would like to find a 900mhz wireless set up that I can attach to my existing Atlantic Technology speakers. I know the Recoton has wireless speakers but I want to keep what I have. Note: the speaker have screw terminals NOT RCA jacks. Does anyone have a solution?

Lets hope the fellows who spend 5 grand on speaker wire because it sounds just a wee bit different than those that cost 3 grand don't see this thread. No wires at all - they might have a bloody heart attack!
![]() I actually have nothing to add to your thread. Just wanted to bump it up so somebody in the know could help ya. It's sitting all the way down here without a response. Good luck ------------------ DDS-017 DVDFile.Com General Manager manager@dvdfile.com |

My advice ? Skip wireless, unless convenience is the ultimate factor.
In DD mode, your rears also receive full frequency information. I doubt that wireless can give the rear speakers the full frequency and richness that a good wired, rear diffuse speaker can project. Analogy ? I have a 900 mhz wireless phone. It just doesn't sound good compared to the wired analog line. My 2 cents. Dave Bean |

Hum...that's his call. He should get both and compare. When it comes to speakers, everyone has a different opinion on what sounds good enough to them.
If he has carpeting, he can run the wires underneath it. If it's real hardwood, he could....take up a couple of boards and run the wire underneath. If it's one of the new European floating floor systems, he might be able to slip a flat wire underneath the rubber matting. Problem is that his condo committee might not allow it. Monster Cable makes a "flat" cable that can be effective in this situation. It's like 1/8 inches thick and broad and flat. Dave Bean |

If you really wanted to get funky you could also run the wires up on the front wall, over on the ceiling and then down the back. Right?
Get some flat wires that match your walls. Maybe add a couple of paintings on the front to make it look aestetic and run the wires behind the painting/poster. IKEA has some cool speaker stuff that matches decors. Notsure about the quality though. |

I think the best solution is to bite the bullet, get up in your crawl space, and wire it into your ceiling (or floor if that's easier.)
Of course, if you're renting this might not be an option. I have a 900mHz phone, and I don't think it sounds any worse than the phones that I have direct wired. Why would there be degredation when going wireless? ------------------ Taxi DDS#42 DVDFile.Com Moderator [This message has been edited by Taxi (edited 11-28-2001).] |

thanks for everyone's imput. my flooras are hardwood and I don't really want to pull them up. I put a large oriental rug over the majority of the flat cable that I have and it's ok but you still see it running underneath like varicose veins and then it shoots out the end for 3 ft. before making it to the wall. I think 900mhz is fairly good for voice freq but I am not sure about the amount of info that a 5.1 system would present. I do have AC on the back wall so I could use a powered system with my Atlantic Tech speakers if something like that exists. Has anyone even seen such an animal?

Well, what you would be looking for would be something that would broadcast just the line level signal from one area to another. Then you could hook up an amp to it to power your speakers.
One way to do this would be to get a dual channel instrument wireless mic setup, and a power amp. Use the wireless trancivers to send the signal from your receiver to the wireless reciever module and then from there go into a two channel amp and finally from there to your speakers... however this is really expensive and I'm not sure how well it would work.
