How much is too much to have on a DVD player?

Do you welcome the set-top box or are you concerned about which unit to spend your $$$ on in the future?
Right now we have;
Ps2 w/DVD capability
DIshnetwork w DVD
DVD with Nuon
And lets not forget recordable DVD.It seems that will be a highly desirable feature and Ps2 doesnt have it.
This could make deciding on a piece of hardware a tough choice.
Im on my second player and am interested in Ps2 but I also want to record.
Has anyone else here considered these points?
Is it better to have all these features separate for upgrade purposes?

Well here's my take on the issue. Yes, the ps2 will have dvd capability, but I doubt it will perform all that well with it given that it is a gaming machine first and foremost and the majority of the hardware inside will be geared towards that. Actually thats pretty much my answer to any of the systems that 'include' dvd along with its main function. The Nuon is still around? I thought that system died a silent death a year or more ago?

That being said, I just bought my first dvd player the other day! Up until now I have been buying dvds (since early 1998), and watching them on my pc or occasionally renting a player from Blockbuster when friends/family came over. Thanks to Shane for his review of the Sony 650-d, its an amazing piece of equipment. Now I just need to build the sound system...

If you want to build a cheap sound system, here's what I recommend:

Mission Cinema 2 speaker pack (great value)
Yamaha DSP-A595 amp (has built in DD and DTS)

There you have it. I have the Cinema 1 pack (which got a 5 star review last year) and Yamaha's 592 amp (which lacks onboard decoding). They sound terrific in Pro-Logic. Now I just have to upgrade my player to one with on-board decoding! Looks like I've done it the other way round...

Sith- Thanks for the advice! Though I think I'm going to wait until later in the year to see what THX EX equipment comes out (my eyes & stomach are very big). Until then I can deal with stereo, or just plop down in front of my computer to hear something in surround.
