S-Video versus RCA

I have the Pioneer 515 and a Front Projector. I tested a Monster 1000v Silver RCA video cable against a $7 S-video cable and guess which won on picture quality. $7 model. Do others fine that cheap S-Video cable exedes expensive RCA ? Will i even get a more better picture with a reference cable..

Here's what I do and what I always recommend to do:
If you can handle a soldering iron, make your own cable!
This way you can make them exactly the length you need and you're definitely sure that you have a quality product (you did it yourself, after all )
It's even some fun, too.

For S-Video and composite cables, go to a electronics store and get some RG-59 (75 ohms) cable. It's very cheap and beats every monster cable to peaces.

For some great and life-lasting connectors, stop by at http://www.neutrik.com

Hope this helps... happy soldering!

ru4real: One question. You're comparing a $7 s-video cable to an "RCA video cable", but how is that RCA cable connected? Through the composite video out, or the three component video connectors?

Adequately connected S-Video is always going to be better than composite video. The separation of color and brightness eliminates a lot of noise around the edges of objects.

Component video vs. S-Video are another issue entirely. Some combinations of displays and DVD players don't work well with component connections (my Toshiba SD-3006 looked like crud with my Mitsubishi HD RPTV, but looks great with a Sony S550D).

So the difference you're noticing may have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the cables, but rather the technology that rides on them.

DJROBX this cable is running via composite. I have just borrowed the s-video version of the Monster M1000 and it blows the $7 and the RCA one away..its costing around $100 US. but its worth it...

ru4real,

Since you're only borrowing that SVideo cable, why don't you go down to Radio Shack (or any similar electronics store) and try one of their less expensive S Video cables.

I don't think you'll notice that much of a difference between the Monster and the Radio Shack cables.
