Widescreen TV screen format problems when watching a DVD

When watching DVDs on my Pioneer 515 DVD, I have a problem where my Phillips 32" widescreen TV randomly switches from widescreen to 16:9 format whilst watching a film. Does anyone know why this happens? I have heard it may a problem with some widescreen TVs.

Do you mean, randomly switches from widescreen to 4:3 format?

Ah yes, European TV's I beleive that there is a flag embedded in the video signal that automaticly switches from 4:3 to 16:9. I imagine that your TV is becoming confused and missing that flag. If you can, just disable this option and switch manually like we do over here in the US

Just for future reference for me, what region movies and player are you having this problem with?

The signal embedded in TV transmissions, telling my TV to switch from 3:4 to 16:9 works, the TV switches correctly when receiving a broadcast in 'widescreen'. The TV also has a setting for 'true' widescreen if there is such a thing. This is the setting used for playing DVDs and Videos that are in widescreen or 'letterbox' format i.e. 2.35:1.
The problem is that the TV switches from the widescreen setting to 16:9 randomly whilst watching DVDs. This problem doesn't occur when watching Videos? I run a standard Region 2 Pioneer 515 player.
I don't have a manual override that will stop the TV switching. Next step is to change the TV - I don't think it is the DVD player.
Does that help clarify the problem? Maybe this all works differently in the US?
