I'd venture a guess that that is due to the macrovision protection. If you have a dvd that isn't macrovision protected (though they nearly all are), I bet the screen capture would work properly.

Actually, the problem is more likely due to the hardware video acceleration. Though I don't know much about Macs, I do know that some have ATI Rage Pro chips, the same chip that many PCs have. And just like your Mac, a PC will leave a blank space where the video is supposed to be if you try and do a screen capture, since the video area is an overlay.
You might check to see if you can disable hardware acceeration. On the PC the best solution is to get software that supports capturing stills (PowerDVD), maybe there is some software for the Mac that can do the same. |

Well, with a macintosh usually the way that movies from external sources are displayed is straight to the display. The OS just leaves space for the video card to insert video When you take a screen shot you just get the screen with a blank area for the inserted video.
If your software player doesnt' have a capture feature than you probably can't do it. Chromy |
