sound system
Well, I'm in the middle of looking to put together a 5.1 system and need a little advice. Let me preface this by saying that I have never put together a 5.1 system before, and any information is helpful. I was originally looking to put together a ex capable system, but price-wise that's just not viable right now. I have a Sony Dvp-C650D player, and was looking at the Sony STR-DE935 receiver. My questions are, along with this receiver should I have any additional amplifiers? Does any have or has worked with the particular receiver and can give me any insights into how it performs? Can anyone advise me as to what surrounds/subs/center speaker work best with Sony products? When answering that last one, please keep in mind that I can save (reasonably) $200 a month for this and would like to have it set up by the end of the year.

I have the 925, the 935's predecessor. Though I don't know exactly how loud you like your HT, the only amplification you should need would be on the subwoofer. 110 watts per channel for non-sub frequencies is a LOT of power.
In any event, I'd definitely try it without an additional amplifier first, it gets plenty loud for me. As for speakers, that's totally subjective and I won't even go there. You'll have to audition, audition, audition and make a decision on what fits your budget, fits in your living room, and sounds best to your ears. |
