Getting 2.0 Surround Sound
Recently updated my sound system, and am at a loss at getting surround sound off a few disks that are labeled "2.0 Surround Sound". Disks include: Last Emperor, X-files Season #1; Army of Darkness Directors Cut; Blair Witch Project, Commitments and Life of Brian.
Have Panasonic DVD-A110, Technics SA-AX720 Reciever, Technics SH-AC500D Sound Processor. No "Pro-Logic" symbol is picked up at the recievers and no sound from center or surrounds. Other Surround Disks work fine. Any leads would be appreciated. |

The SH-AC500D has a problem of sorts... Sometimes it doesn't go to Pro-Logic. I imagine that this is a problem with a flag embedded in the audio stream (or more likely a lack of a flag on some titles) that doesn't switch the DD/DTS decoder to Pro-logic mode... therefor it thinks that it is decoding 5.1 channels still, but there is only L and R channels.
What I would suggest is for those titles to switch out of the 6-channel direct mode on the receiver and let the receiver do the Pro-Logic decoding. Commentary tracks will often do this too. Chromy |
