Need Help Picking Speakers
Hello All!
Currently my home theater system is housed in one of those giant cabinets that has the bridge that goes over my Mitsubishi 50" TV. The front speakers I'm using are the same two I've had since the mid eighties. A pair of old BOSS bookshelves. A couple of Christmas' ago my wife completed the set with a pair of BOSS surround and a BOSS center channel. I really want to replace my old front BOSS speakers but I would like to stay with bookshelve speakers. So here are my questions... Do I need to stay with BOSS to keep everything consistent? If so, does BOSS make high end bookshelve speakers? Can you also please recommend a decent subwoofer? One of the drawbacks to bookshelves is this put out CRAP for low end frequencies so I know I'll need a sub. Thanks... ------------------ -Damian |

One of the hard things to do with a home theater is to get all of your speakers matching (especialy the front three)... same brand or not.
What I would suggest is taking your center channel speaker with you when you go and listen to LR's. Listen to them as part of a surround package, but also listen to your center channel speaker as part of a stereo pair. Make sure that the volumes are calibrated. Listen to pink noise from a test disc with the LR speaker and your existing center channel speaker as close together as they can get. Take notes and listen to as many speakers in your price range as you can. Chromy |

Thanks for the info.
Are there any particular brands that you recommend in both front left and right and subwoofer speakers? Something that isn't too expensive either but not Radio Shack quality either. ![]() ------------------ -Damian |

Depending on total budget concerned, you might think about these three options.
1)B&W: 4 DM302 speakers for main and surround 1 CC3 center channel speaker 1 ASW 500 sub 2) Boston Acoustics 4 CR6 mains and surround 1 CR2 center speaker 1 PV600 Sub. 3)PSB Image Series 4 2C mains and surround 1 8C center 1 Subsonic 6 sub All of these, with the exception of the PSB(cause I don't know the price) can be had for about a grand US. You can see all of these reviewed here. Hope this helps. ![]() j ------------------ formerly known as j70chlngr "You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common: they don't alter their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit the views, which can be uncomfortable, if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."
