Onkyo?

i am looking at upgrading from my 46" tv and 5.1 system in the next little while, so i went into a specialty home theater store to check around for a new 7.1 or 9.1 sound system and 65" or larger widescreen HDTV. the guy i talked to HIGHLY recommended an Onkyo reciever. before this i think i have heard of Onkyo only once. i did some checking in HT magazines and on the net and i cannot find a bad or even a mediocre review. are Onkyo's really that good?
i believe i was looking at the TX-DS989 THX 7.1 Surround EX system, i will be going in again for a full demo soon.
also, any suggestions on TVs and speakers/subs to go with?

HEY,

ONKYO IS REALLY GOOD EQUIPMENT-OFFERING A LOT OF NEW TECHNOLOGY AND ALSO GOOD BUILD QUALITY-ONE THING TO BEAR IN MIND IS DTS'S NEW ANNOUNCEMENT OF THEIR 6.1 PROCESSING-ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE THE 989 IS UPGRADABLE THROUGH FLASH MEMORY.

DEPENDING ON YOUR TASTE IN SOUND(AND BUDGET) YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT M&K( THEY MAKE A VERY GOOD THX SELECT SYSTEM)

hi!

i own the onkyo-ds 939 THX receiver. it is a very very very good unit! you can turn up the volume to "are you nuts"-levels and the sound will still be crystal clear! it has many features but is still easy to use.
the onkyo-support is also very good! the guys are answering mails concerning their products very quickly.
the quality of onkyo-products generally is very good. a friend of mine owns a cheaper onkyo receiver and is also very pleased with it. if you want to buy a reveicer/amp right now and you want one of the best products out there, go for the onkyo 989 or the upcoming denon dts es discrete unit.

greets,
mmjb

Got a question for you mmjb:
What, if anything, do you do about the 939's lack of dts? Trying to figure out whether/how to make it work with a Sony S7700. Thanks to you or anyone with thoughts.

I heard it's pretty sweet. Personally, I'd go with a Pioneer Elite, affordability and excellent sound
