Pioneer DVD-434

I have been in shopping mode for a DVD player and was interested in this player. However, I remember reading some article (which I can't locate) that said that your television needs to have some technical spec in order for it to show the benefit of a "progressive scan" player. I think it had to do with the line resolution Has anyone heard of this, and if so, how do you find out this info?

Hmm. I'm not 100% sure, but I would think that just about any HDTV ready set should be able to take advantage of a progressive signal.

I do know that if you DON'T have an HDTV set, you're not going to be able take advantage of the progressive output of the DVD player. Your set will have to be able to display at least 480p.

If my tv is not HDTV-ready, then it's not worth the extra money spent? Or are there other additional features on newer models of DVD players (that include progressive scan) that are not on older ones?

Unless your TV is HDTV ready or can accept a 480 progressive input, then you won't be able to take advantage of the player's prgeesive output. I'm sure that newer models have benefits over older ones, the question I'd ask: is the progressive one comparable in price to other non-progressive players that offer the same features? How much more is the progressive costing you? If you do get it, whenever you upgrade to a HDTV, you'll already have progressive capability in your player. Something to think about.
