I believe the new/current Panasonic DVD players are chroma-bug free but offer lackluster de-interlacing ability when compared to the DVD-RP82 and its cousins.

Peace...

DVD F85/87 Chroma Bug

I should said I did a search already. If you look at that search link, there is nothing conclusive that says the F85/87 is free from or suffers from the chroma bug.

As far as de-interlacing goes, thats not an issue for me. I won't be using the de-interlacing of the player. I'll use the F87's interlaced output with either an iScan Ultra/HD and a Panny LCD PJ or I'll use the interlaced output straight into an Epson TW100H for example.

Does anyone know if the DVD F85/87 have a separate MPEG decoder, or whether its part of their new all-in-one chip design?

I own the DV47a from Pioneer and have noticed the bug from the get go. I talked to a Pioneer rep about the "will not fix issue" and he told me that they did not want to compromise the video processing to get around the bug. Besides the bug the player looks fantastic. The most tweakable dvd for the price. I'm thinking about running a seperate video scaler to correct the problems. Looking into the hd ver from DVDO. They say it corrects the bug. Any opinions???

iScan chroma bug fixer

I have the iScan Ultra and like the iScan HD, it cures any Chroma bug your player may have, and not only that, the iScan's have the BEST de-interlacing, and the HD couples it with the BEST scaling, well, for the price its arguabley the best. All in all a good combination. I have the iScan Ultra but I don't know if any of the DVD players I've used have the Chroma bug because I've only used them with the iScan Ultra. My older Panny CV51 has no bug and I use that also with an iScan Pro.

I'd say the iScan HD is a cool thing. Its Chroma bug fix is pretty much perfect. Apparantly ,you won't see the Chroma bug anymore if you use it with your dvd player or any player with the bug. I have not seen the chroma upsampling error or the Ultra CUE filter in action myself though.

Do you need to run the DVD players in interlaced when using a scaler?

Well I've always had a Panasonic player so maybe I never had to deal with the stupid chroma bug .....

I do get lines around certain objects but that is probably caused by my interlaced player and my 4:3 TV .

I guess I should stay with Panasonic or JVC the next time I buy a player .
