Question on watching DVD's on my TV.
I have a question. Does one need a special type of TV set to watch DVD's?
Because I am annoyed now. I poped in a DVD in my TV set and I notice that the right and left sides are a bit cropped up. I know I don;t have a widescreen TV, but I mean, I thougt that the purpose of watching a film in widescreen with the black bars on top and bottom was so you could get the whole image on a regular sized TV. What gives? It annoys me when I see part of a letter in the title or on screen cropped up. I have been noticing this lately. Even more so when I compared the way the menu screen looks of Empire Of The Sun on a review and the way it looks on my TV. On my TV the left side of the temple is slightly cropped. In the picture on the review the whole temple is seen and with enough space leftover on the left side. And it's a good TV set that I have. It's new, so I am baffled here. It's a Toshiba flat screen TV. Can this be fixed and if not, can I amke a valid complaint to Toshiba and get some kind of retribution? Grrr! |

Welcome to the forum Mistienght!
![]() This is what's known as overscan. It's common on almost all sets in varying amounts. ------------------ 1138 - DVD File Forum Greeter/Moderator The defense department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid. |

You might also post the make and model of your TV. Many TVs have service menus which allow you to adjust overscan. I have a Sony and was able to adjust mine so its perfect.
