Wobbly blurry wavy image

This is not a manifestation of MacroVision.

This looks like a VHS video tracking problem, but, as this is DVD, it's obviously something else.

Has anyone encountered this glitch, and if you solved it, how did you do it?

My DVD player is a "Sony CD/DVD Player," model DVP-C660.

Welcome to the forum Craig!

What kind of video connection are you using? Have you tried a different cable and/or a different type of connetion?

My options are a bit limited. The only thing I could do, short of buying a new TV, would be to use a better grade of cable. How much would that help?

My TV does not have one those up-to-date sockets (can't remember the name right now), so I had to use a Video RF Modulator.

I have a digital cable converter box, a WhiteWestinghouse TV (WTV-11301-11901), a VCR (Magnavox VHS HQ VR2042At01), the DVD player mentioned above, and the Video RF Modulator all cabled together.

Is the image screwy if you hook up the player directly to the TV? DOes you rTV only have the composte (yellow RCA) connection?

Also, since this isn't a Glitch, I'm going to move it to Hardware.

You don't have unshielded speakers next to the TV do you? The first thing I thought of when I read the topic was "stop putting a magnet up to your TV".

I'm guessing that he doesn't have a composite video input (yellow tipped rca cable) as he is using the RF modulator.

I would try to hook the DVD player directly up to the RF modulator, and only the DVD player, to see if any other component is causing the problem.

I had the same problem when I tried to hook up DVD and Video to the same composite input on the TV using the Y cable.
When I unplugged the Video, problem went away.
Now I have everything hooked through the Receiver and it works fine.
I guess you can't mix them all in one RF.

Nope, no speakers next to the TV.

But how can you record digital cable shows, then? What do you mean by "Reciever?"

“Receiver” is AM/FM radio, digital processor, preamp/amp all in one.

Here is a hook up idea, but I am assuming a lot, so if my assumptions are wrong, this will not work.
I am assuming that your TV has only RF input, that your digital cable box has RF output and that you have no HT setup of any kind, meaning that you are using analog outputs from your DVD.

So here it goes:
Connect your cable box to “antenna in” on your VCR. Connect “antenna out” (or “RF out”) from your VCR directly to RF on your TV. Connect analog video and audio outputs from your DVD to video and audio inputs on your VCR.
When you want to watch your DVD, turn the VCR on as well and select auxiliary video source. This is just a theory. I don’t know if this is going to work regarding protection against recording on DVD’s.

By all means try Slider’s suggestion first.

Anybody has a better idea?

I've outlined my setup. Here it is:

(1) Cable Outlet leads to Splitter.

(2) Set 1 of splitter goes to Set B of A/B Switch.

(3) Set 2 of splitter goes to Digital Converter Box.

(4) Digital Converter Box goes to VCR, which goes to Set A of the A/B Switch.

(5) "To TV" of A/B Switch goes to ANT IN of RF Modulator.

(6) "To TV" of RF Modulator goes to the TV.

(7) "Video and L-R audio" part of RF Modulator goes to the "Video and L-R audio" part of the DVD player.

The A/B switch is set to A for watching and recording digital cable. It is set to B for recording digital cable and watching non-digital.

Whew! Any suggestions (or ridicule) based on this information?
