Purchasing a DVD Player
I want to purchase a DVD player, but I do need some help about the different components. I have a 5 year old Mitsubishi TV. The salesman said I should get a player that operates one dvd instead of the larger sets of 5 or 7 dvds. He said movies only come on one CD. Is this correct? I purchased Snow White and it has 2 disks. Second, the producer, He was suggesting a JVC or second a Sony, both mid range. What is happening with the industry? Would I be buying a DVD player that soon will be outdated? HELP

Some movies will come on TWO discs, the Godfather II is an example of such a movie. I would say 98% of all DVDs have the entire movie on ONE disc, either all on one side or split across both sides.
Getting a CD/DVD changer is cool if you want to have convenient access to BOTH discs of a 2-disc set. There really is NO video/audio performance loss with a multi-disc DVD changer. Any DVD player you buy now will eventually become obsolete. There are people on this forum who use DVD players from 1997 and are still happy with them. Almost any DVD player you buy now should work well for the next 5 years or so (I would speculate). If your Mits is HD capable, you might want to check out the Panasonic DVD-RP56. They can be found online for as little as $200 shipped and are progressive scan players with great performance. They are the current "hot" progressive player right now. Good luck! Peace.... |
