JVC's new 7 disc prog-scan player

Saw this on the best buy site, looks good. It's gold. I also hear great things about jvc dvd players in general. I'm seeing alot of unhappy sony people. Are there any unhappy jvc people?

Personally, I don't buy anything JVC. All of their stuff is cheap, physically.

That's what I thought too. I was more interested in sony's new 5 disc, but when I went to epinions.com etc, they all said to get the jvc and sony sucks?! Usually there is nothing but praise for sony. So I thought wow something must really be wrong with the sony! But who knows? Maybe it's just some jvc rep making the rounds.

I think Marantz makes a five disc player, you might want to check that out first.

Well, I'm sure there have been some who have had major headache type problems with Sony. But you can find people like that for just about any company.

The problem with sites where there's user feedback is that mad people tend to overstate their poor ratings and bring down the overall vote. Even more so on popular products.

I own a lot of SOny equpment myself and have never had much, if any, problems with them. Both their TV's and DVD players have a genrally good rep.

JVC is fine. My friend bought one and loves it. He hasn't had any problems and the only "complaint" he had was that he had to remember which disc was loaded up since it doesn't display it on the front panel. I have had no problems with JVC products (2 VCRS and my current TV). I also have Sony products and they are fine too. Unfortunately, when a lot of people who write reviews have one bad encounter with a particular unit, they write off everything that carries the same brand name. I don't understand it, but they are entitled to their opinion.

A lot of people using this forum complained about the Toshiba 2109 DVD player. I had one for almost 2 years and NEVER had a problem with mine with ANY discs. The only reason I sold it and got a newer sony is because I needed progressive scan and got a hell of a deal on it.

Just try it out at a local store and see if it works for you. All of us can recommend the stars, but since it will be in YOUR home, the only opinion that really matters is yours. Good luck.

Unfortunately I have had a very bad experience with JVC. I purchased a JVC XV523GD that was a complete lemon. It could not be fixed (video problem) so I was given a replacement (same model). The replacement was also a nightmare (this time there were numerous problems). JVC customer service was terrible (truly awful). In the end, nothing was done for me and I will have to buy another unit (though it will certainly not be JVC).

This is not to say that every JVC DVD player will be garbage, but my experience has certainly taught me to stay away from them and their customer service leaves nothing to be desired.
