Panasonic DVDRP56 - Opinions?
Anyone have any opinions on the Panasonic DVDRP56? I am in the market for a new player, and this one is a leading candidate. It gives me Progressive Scan for a decent price which is certainly a good thing.

Over on AVS Forum, people are ranting and raving over the RP56. Even the HomeTheater HiFi guys love this machine, especially for the video performance at the unit price for the RP56. You can find them online for $200 shipped to you!
The RP56 does NOT do upscaling of non-anamorphic DVDs, like the RP91, but it has the Sage and Faroudja chipsets to produce stunning progressive video output, from what i understand. For $200, there is NO REASON NOT to try this player.... Peace... |

I've been tempted to get it myself (even though my Sony is working fine and I do not have an HDTV) 'cause I like the idea of the bass boost (and other) buttons.
Let us know if you get it. P.S. I saw it on sale at my local Best Buy just yesterday if you can't wait for mail order ($219, I think). [This message has been edited by Nightingale (edited 11-28-2001).] |

There is a very good chance that this will be my next purchase. It is going for around $375 here in Canada, which (with the exchange rate as it is right now) converts to around $220US. I would order it from the US but I know the customs I would have to pay on it would be crazy.
