Best Subwoofer EVER!

Just last week I bought a SVS 16-46pc Subwoofer and OH MY! This thing rattles the walls!!!! It is huge and the sound is very clean and undistorted!!! A friend came over and I demo'd it for him and he said it wasn't very loud until I reminded him that he was sitting about 18 inches from me and yelling at the top of his lungs so I could hear him. That is how clean the sound is!!!

With the 12 meter cable and shipping it was only a mere 880.00!!!
With such a cheap price I'm surprised everyone doesn't own one!!!!!

I have two of the smaller ones (small is a relative term with these) that are unpowered (already had an amp for LFE) and now that things are settled down I'm getting about 118db at the listening position at 20Hz... and this is right before the amp clips... I can't get the drivers to bottom out.

I have never been more impressed with a single piece of HT gear.

I have a Paradigm PDR 10 that I like very much. Its bigger and better than what I need, and it only cost me like 310.00. Very nice mid level sub for entry level price. I am often suprised that there is not more talk on this forum about the quality of this Canadian speaker company. There print ads in hi-fi magazines are a little stuffy, but their products are very practical. (I also have Titans and a cc-170 center channel) I don't know if the PDR 10 can compare with the "best suboofer ever", but it deserves mention.

Paradigm PDR-10 here as well. I paid $260 for mine brand new and would put it up against a lot of higher priced ones.

Glad you found something you like. I know a lot of people spend money on everything but a good sub, tho $800 is an awful lot for one.

Paradigm is well known for offering good price/performance ratios...the PDR10 surely represents this.

The right subwoofer for a particular application will depend on many variables...budget and performance expectations chief among them I believe.

The HGS18s from Velodyne retail at $3000(!)...but if you want the lowest cleanest bass possible from a decent size box...that's the way to go.

Conversely, good performing budget subs like the pdr series can give the HT enthusiast a lot of bang for relatively little cost. In smaller rooms, the pdr10 might be all you need for a great HT experience.

The SV subwoofer mentioned is sort of designed to offer 90% of the VEL performance for about 1/4 the retail cost. For reference...it would take maybe 6-9 of the pdr10s to even get close to either (HGS18/SV46) down low.

SV's pre sale support blew me away. Emails (and I sent a lot of emails) were always answered promptly and fully, as well as presenting other solutions and trade offs between the different solutions. I was also presented with approximate output levels and best placement figgures for my room.

Props to Tom and the team at SV Subwoofers!

The folks over at Secrets seemed impressed by these subs, too.

Check this out.

I need me a set of these, and a house to install them in.

Damn, I've got to get me one of those!

Too bad I think my room is too small for it.

Hsu's?

When I could not get a speedy response to a need for instant lows because SVS was suffering from production slowdowns, I bought a $600 10" Hsu powered sub. Seems to work well, but I have no good referrence measure. This was the recommended substitute for the SVS at the time from the mavins at Hometheater.com. Anyone have the skinny on this manufacturer?

I have used this guy in a poor listening room, but am in the process of building a 15'x20'x9' theater. Maybe the Hsu will be enough, maybe not. I'll see when completed.

Yes, unfortunately...Ron and myself(the two primary founders of SVS) severely underestimated the interest in our products. For the first 6-9 months(mid 2000 to early 2001) we were playing catch-up with backorders. Since spring of 2001 though...we've done very well in maintaining a 1-2 (business)day window from order received to product shipped.

On Hsu? Great company with good products. I think you're speaking of the HSU VTF-2? That's only $499 now(direct from hsuresearch)...one of the best <$500 powered subwoofers you can have I think.

This will probably depend on your source material and the listening levels you want the system to be able to reproduce cleanly.

Thanks Tom, I find it refreshing when a competitor speaks well of his competition. It also shows confidence in his own product.

I got my 20-39pc in December and I've never known a peice of equipment to elevate my system to such euphoric levels. My room is small and the 25-39pc was suggested, but I took my chances with the 20-39 because of its lower extension. It fit my room (16x13x8) to a tee. It arrived a day earlier than planned and the hook up was too easy. I set all my speakers to small and let my processor do the work. I haven't felt like experimenting with different configurations because this sound SO GOOD!. For movies and music this subs does it all for 749.00 + shipping. Nuthin' but praises for the folks at SVS.
