TV question
Right now I am using a 24inch Toshiba Flat Screen TV that I bought at Bestbuy. I am pretty happy with it and dvds look good as I have my DVD player hooked up through a component cable. But I have also been looking at some other TVs in 27-32 inch range that have a 16:9 mode that is supposed to enhance DVDs. For those who know, how much of a difference does this make? And would I notice much of a difference in picture quality on dvds if I upgraded to one of these TVs?

The humble answer to your question is yes. All anamorphic/16:9 dvds lose 1/3 of their picture quality when shown on a 4:3 TV. The information is removed by the dvd player so that the TV can handle it. A non anamorphic movie never has the extra picture quality to begin with so it does not need to be removed. One of these 16:9 TVs allows the full picture quality to be presented from the dvd player and so none of the picture quality is removed and there is more resolution. So these Tvs have a dramatic increase in picture quality, similar to the difference between Laserdisc and DVD because there is more resolution available.
Similarly HDTVs are capable of producing a far better image because the tv can again handle more resolution. Sorry if this is too techie.
