Lasonic Question

I saw a cheap Lasonic DVD player the other day adn noticed it said NTSC/PAL conversion. I forgot to look for a region and the website did not sow any info on region, but would the NTSC/PAL conversion allow me to watch a Region 2 disc.
This IS NOT going to be my primary player, I ahve a Toshiba SD-4700 handling that work load, I am basically going to buy this for one disc, any suggestions?

could you provide a link? I have never heard of Lasonic, and unfortunately, have no clue what you are talking about.

OTOH, if it does PAL, that may mean it is a R2 player. no telling really.

there are quite a few Apex players on the market (and the Lasonic may use the same Bios, like Sampo players) that feature PAL/NTSC converters. However, they need to be hacked in order to be region-free. So beware, or just download the Bios update from any region-free rom link (these links are all over this forum, do a search)

Sorry chlngr... link is Lasonic Web Site .

There isn't too much info on the site. I'd look into an Apex, they seem to have a little more reliability. So if anybody has any APex info, please let me know.

BTW, if the region hacking is illegal I don't wanna cause any trouble...just to cover my bum.

[edited to fix link, j]

I don't believe there are any laws against hacking your player, but it will probably void your warranty. The reason for the Regon coding is for the studios to controll the release of it's product world wide. AFAIK, regon coding has NO legal ramifications whatsoever.
