Shocking, positively shocking...

Ok, I just switched to S-Video cables for all my video games and such (I know, behind the times) and as such I needed to get a S-Video splitter thingiemajigger and now everytime (almost) I go to switch the input the damn thing shocks me, not a lot or painful, but it's still annoying. I tried touching something before doing it, no dice. It's getting pretty annoying... is this me? Did I get a faulty thingy? What's up?

What happens if you pour water on the gaming machine?

(Sorry I could not resist... I'll shut-up now... )

Seriously, did you possbly introduce a grounding problem when switching the cables? What happens if you switch back to the old cables?

Peace.....

If it did cause such a problem how would I fix it? Despite my 256 IQ I have a hard time with entertainment center stuff (256?)...

Moogle,

Your post is somewhat unclear and I think Tom might have misunderstood you. I also wanna make sure I am not misunderstanding you.

Are you getting the shock from the cable or from the switch box?
Or both? And what are you sayign you are switching. Are you actually doing a cable swap each time, or do you just mean a lever/knob on the switch box?

I get the impression you mean the knob on the switch box.

Well, you should not receive a shock on any electrical device really, (Unless it's an electric chair :p) so I'd say if the box is shocking you that you have a short in the box. Same with the cable. If the shock is there, then you have a short.

Also, make sure you are properly polarizing any three prong plugs. Don't do a 3-2'er, that's dangerous.

So whatever is actually causing the shock, return it for a exchange towards a new one.

I guess I have to exchange the S-Video switch box thing... that's what's shocking me whenever I switch my video game system (by hitting the button)... I don't have the reciept, but if I just bitch at Wal-Mart they should return it...

If they refuse to exchange it, ask them to plug it in and hit the button.

Hey, I've got one of those cheap RCA ones, never had a problem. And it's great! I'd say get another one of those.

This is the one I got. It's not cheap, but it switches automatically and since you've moved up to s-video for your games, you can also jump into the 5.1 world of sound for the Xbox and PS2 (if you have them).

Or, if you want a cheap button pusher for s-video, try this...

Personally, I'd be shocked if you didn't go for the nicer one
