Factory Television Settings

Televisions come from the factory with pre-set contrast, brightness, color, tint and sharpness. These pre-set settings are independant of the settings you can play with normally. These hidden settings are a baseline for all future calibrations.

When I first joined this forum, there was a link to tweaking the factory settings for various manufacturers televisions. Unfortunately, I'm not using the right keywords in my searches.

Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? Anyone have the link?

The term you are looking for is Service Menu. Try that.

BE CAREFUL if you "tweak" your set via the Service Menu....

Consider yourself warned....

Peace.....

Yes, be very carefull. You can really screw things up, and unless you have special training and better yet, equipment, the chances are higher that you will make the TV worse rather than better.

Have you looked into ISF calibration in your area? Prices can vary depending on your location and the type of TV you have. Usually it's around $500.

No one is ever disapointed in the money spent on proper calibration.

Is it feasible to ISF Calibrate a direct view TV, like Wega?

Yes, certainly. Although the results are less dramatic.

That's what I needed, guys, thanks!

But, hey. I rented Video Essentials but they didn't have the blue filter. Do 3D glasses use the same filter?

I couldstill set the sound and the brightness/controls. When I did, my overall picture was almost too dark to watch. In order for me to avoid distortion to the white line, I need to set the controls down to nothing.

There are two brightness and two contrast controls in my setup config.

Theres contrast, brightness, Ext. Cntrast and Ext Brightness. I can tell that they do different things, but I can't put my finger on it. Anyone heard of this?

Does my calibration seem correct?

If I have an extended service plan with CC, do you think it would be feasible, with some sweet talking, to get them to do an ISF?

Also, I didn't want to start another thread, but would it be a good idea to invest in an in-line amp for my cable signal?

Circuit City does not do ISF. And even if they did I wouldn't trust them anywhere near my TV.

ISF is a fairly high end service and requires a profesionally trained technician --not the kind of person that works at CC.

You can learn more about ISF calibration here and here.

Also, ISF techs "hang out" on the Home Theater SPot site so you can find one in your area there or at teh ISF website.

Good luck!

Peace......

Oh i am right with you, but they hire out for their service, so I was thinking maybe I can try to get them to pay for it...hey what can I say, I am cheap! $500 can buy alot of new DVDs or a new reciever!

but that same 500 spent on an ISF calibration is well worth it IMHO.
